Garrett will now be under contract until the 2026 season. The deal, as reported by NFL Network&#8217;s Ian Rapoport, is set at $125 million.<\/p>\n<p>NFL Network&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TomPelissero\/status\/1283115983792635910?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Pelissero<\/a> says the $25 million new money average will surpass Bears defensive captain <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MackKh00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Khalil Mack<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s $23.5M for the most ever for a defensive player. Garrett came to the Aggies as the #2 overall prospect in the nation, and the highest-rated defensive player signed by the school. As a true freshman in 2014, Garrett broke the school&#8217;s freshman sack record of 5.5 in just six games.<sup id=\"cite_ref-7\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Garrett finished the season with 11.5 sacks.<\/p>\n<p>Over the entirety of his college career, Garrett compiled 141 tackles, 31 sacks, one interception and seven forced fumbles. Garrett forewent his senior year to enter the NFL Draft where he was taken #1 overall by the Cleveland Browns.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout his NFL career, Garrett has earned one Pro Bowl (2018) and compiled 104 tackles and 35 sacks.<\/p>\n<p>This past season during a November 14 game against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/steelers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a>, Garrett was involved in a scuffle where he ripped the helmet off of Steelers quarterback<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RudoMa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mason Rudolph<\/a><\/strong> and swung it onto his head. This caused him to be suspended for the remainder of the season (six games) and he was fined $45,623.
