This move solidifies Jones on the defensive side of the football and keeps a leader around for the future. A long time coming, but Jones gets his deal, and KC locks in a big one. \ud83d\udcb0\ud83d\udcb0\ud83d\udcb0<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RapSheet\/status\/1283092629761208322?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">July 14, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Chris Jones Contract Extension<\/h2>\n<p>As reported by Rapoport, the deal comes right before the franchise tag deadline on July 15th.\u00a0 Jones had previously tweeted that he would not play until he got a contract extension.<\/p>\n<p>In his first year at Mississippi State, Jones appeared in all 13 games and made three starts. He finished the year with 32 tackles and three sacks. As a sophomore, he appeared in all 13 games, putting up 26 tackles and three sacks. <sup id=\"cite_ref-6\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>In his final year, he started all 13 games, recording 44 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Jones then decided to enter the NFL draft and was widely viewed as a day 2 selection. Drafted in the second round, Jones became a force on a largely overlooked Chiefs defense.<\/p>\n<p>Since entering the league, he has been named a second team All-Pro (2018) and made the Pro Bowl in 2019. He finished the 2018 season third in the league with 15.5 sacks. One of his highest moments in came during a 2018 week 5 game against the Jaguars where Jones returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown in the 30\u201314 victory.<\/p>\n<p>In this past year, Jones was an anchor on the Chiefs defense that overcame a ten-point deficit in Super Bowl LIV. Throughout his career, Jones has amassed 136 tackles and 33 sacks.<\/p>\n<p>The Kansas City Chiefs have locked up a key part of their franchise\u2019s future in addition to quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MahoPa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Patrick Mahomes<\/strong><\/a>, who signed a 10-year extension earlier this off-season.
