Schofield played every snap for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/chargers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> last season, making him a durable pick-up for the Panthers. After several solid seasons with the team, the Broncos decided to cut Schofield prior to the 2017 season. The Chargers decided to take a shot on the 29-year-old guard and picked him up off the waiver wire. After playing out the final year in his rookie contract, Schofield inked a two-year deal with the Chargers in 2018. The dependable guard appeared in all 16 games for the Chargers in 2019, making 16 starts for the team at right guard.<\/p>\n<p>The Schofield signing marks the second former Chargers offensive linemen who the Panthers have acquired this off-season. Just a few weeks back, the Panthers and Chargers agreed upon a deal which sent All-Pro <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TurnTr01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trai Turner<\/a><\/strong> to the Chargers in exchange for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/O\/OkunRu20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russell Okung<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Schofield started 37 games for Chargers since 2017, reunites with Panthers OL coach Pat Meyer, who coached him in L.A. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Migt9r31E5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/t.co\/Migt9r31E5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JFowlerESPN\/status\/1255914389225512962?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 30, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>With this move, the Panthers will more than likely move Schofield over to the left guard position, seeing as how the team already has a consistent starter in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MotoTa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taylor Moton<\/a><\/strong> holding down the right guard spot. This would replace the need for the Panthers to start <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DaleDe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dennis Daley<\/a><\/strong> at left guard. Daley played well as a rotational piece for the Panthers in 2019, but clearly wasn&#8217;t ready to take on a starting role.
