A lot of talk coming into the draft was that General Manager John Elway was looking for playmakers. Guys that will come in and immediately make an impact on a team that looks playoff-bound. In this year’s Wide Receiver class there were three names that stood out from the rest. Alabama hosting two of the top three receivers in Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs with CeeDee Lamb coming from Oklahoma. Chances of them making it to the 15th pick did not seem possible. But not only that, two of them made it that long. Elway instead held steadfast at 15 and ended up landing the best receiver in the class without sacrificing anything.

Jerry Jeudy a Strong Pick for Denver Broncos

Drew Lock is the happiest man in Denver right now. Even before the addition of Jerry Jeudy this team was already rich with talent at key skill positions. Lining up outside you have Pro Bowler Courtland Sutton coming off a monster 1,112-yard season that saw him average 15.4 yards per reception with six touchdowns. Inside you have Tight End Noah Fant who registered 562 yards with an average of 14.1 yards per reception in his rookie season. Out of the backfield, you have back to back 1,000-yard rusher Phillip Lindsay and newly added Pro Bowl Running back Melvin Gordon. Not a lot of teams in the NFL host as much Pro Bowl offensive talent as the Denver Broncos do going into 2020.

This leads to the addition of Alabama star receiver Jerry Jeudy in this years NFL Draft. Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban is quoted in recent interviews saying that Jeudy reminds him of former NFL great Keenan McCardell. Undoubtedly, lofty praise for a guy that hasn’t played a down in the NFL yet but it’s not unwarranted. At Alabama, Jeudy was a big play waiting to happen with his 17.2 career average yards per reception amassing 2,742 yards. New Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur is going to have Jeudy lining up inside and outside in his spread offense. Thankfully, the Denver Broncos won’t have to worry about manufacturing plays to get the ball into Jerry’s hands, he knows how to get open.

Once again, General Manager John Elway is on his way again to building another franchise defying draft class in 2020. Landing the top receiver at your biggest need going into the draft is nothing short of amazing. Moreover, not only is it amazing but unlike what most seemed to believe Elway got his guy without sacrificing anything. And he had his choice between Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb (who went to the Dallas Cowboys instead a few picks later).

The Denver Broncos have everything you could need for a deep playoff run in the AFC Conference. It’s not just the fans, Jerry Jeudy has the Broncos players all fired up too. With all this firepower at Denver’s disposal, I think I would be jumping right along with Von Miller.

.@VonMiller approves of the @jerryjeudy pick pic.twitter.com/2K4u1Q8Mez

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) April 24, 2020

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

The Denver Broncos were looking for an impact player in the 2020 NFL Draft.
