He also played some at left tackle and can play either side well. He has good size and form, but lacks top-end strength and needs to spend some time in the weight room to succeed at the next level. Steele showed signs of what he could become at the next level. That said, he was beaten too often and penalized way too much over his career at Texas Tech.

Terence Steele attended high school in Cibolo, TX, playing for Steele High School. Steele excelled on the offensive line after committing to lose weight to help the team. He dropped fifty pounds and became an all-district level player gaining the attention of college coaches around the country. Terence Steele was offered scholarships from North Texas, UTSA, Brigham Young, but choose to attend Texas Tech.

Steele performed well in 2019 and was a four-year starter for Texas Tech. He produced solid film as a senior and improved his standing at the NFL combine. He struggled in a big way at the senior bowl and was seen as a bit of a project at that point. Steele has done a good job in both pass blocking and run blocking. Terrence Steele was a team captain for Texas Tech and coaches have stated he exhibits good leadership skills.

Strengths

A four-year starter in a power conference brings experience to the next level;

Has NFL-ready size and frame;

Utilizes his long arms to his advantage in the pass blocking game;

Does a really solid job holding his blocks in the run game;

Very good recovery when beaten initially by faster rushers.

Weaknesses

Is not strong enough to play at the next level as is;

Needs to improve his footwork and overall technique;

Poor lateral movement too often turns the entire body;

Was penalized way too much for holding and false starts;

Struggles against quick inside moves in pass-blocking.

NFL Comparison: Rick Wagner

Teams With Need at Position: Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, Washington Redskins

Projection: 5th-7th Round

Bottom Line on Terence Steele

Terence Steele has a ton of experience starting in a power conference. Steele had a solid NFL combine where he 5.03 40-yard dash, put up 25 reps in the bench press and generally had a strong showing. He did however not perform well at the Senior Bowl and his stock took a pretty big hit. Terence Steele is seen as having 2nd-4th round upside, but will likely have to wait until day three to hear his name called. He could develop into a solid tackle given some time in the weight room and quality coaching. He has the tools, the size, and the skill to make it happen.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Terence Steele started 47 games for Texas Tech with the majority coming at right tackle.
