They are looking for a player to give them value in the middle rounds of the draft. No other player fits this mold better than Louisiana Tech standout Amik Robertson. In his college career, he has shown the potential to one day be a quality starter in the NFL. His numbers speak for himself as he totaled 179 tackles, 14 interceptions, and 34 passes defended in his three-year college career.

As a three-star recruit out of high school, Robertson was not one of the top prospects in the nation. Regardless, he still garnered interest from some of the top schools in the nation such as LSU, Texas, and Arizona. He ultimately decided that Louisiana Tech would be the best school for him and he signed with them on January 30th, 2017. In his time at Louisiana Tech, Robertson was a three-year starter and impressed early. He showed growth throughout his time there and eventually graded out as one of the top corners of 2019 by PFF. After his junior season, Robertson officially declared for the 2020 NFL Draft.

Positives

Great in coverage as he was one of the highest-graded corners the past season;

Has experience playing on both the outside and at nickel;

Very physical with receivers at the line of scrimmage;

Takes advantage of offensive mistakes as he tallied 14 interceptions in his college career;

He’s shorter, but still has a great athletic skill set to match receivers;

Possesses good speed to match the majority of receivers;

Willing tackler with great form;

Has fluid hip movement that helps him mirror receivers in coverage;

Great at getting a hand on the ball as he had 34 pass breakups in his career;

An aggressive player at all times looks for players to hit.

Negatives

Lacks the ideal size to play corner in the NFL;

Bigger receivers will be able to feast on him in the NFL;

Tends to get a little grabby which could lead to penalty issues at the next level;

While he is fast, he doesn’t possess the elite speed to match all receivers;

His height will limit him at the next level.

NFL Comparison: Captain Munnerlyn

Teams With Need at Position: Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins

Projection: Third-fourth round pick

Bottom Line on Amik Robertson

Based on pure skill and technique, there are very few players in this class better than Amik Robertson. He is a physical corner who has fallen under the radar due to his size. His experience playing on the inside and outside will likely intrigue a team in the middle rounds of this year’s draft. As refined as his skills are, his size will likely force him to become strictly a nickel corner in the NFL. His name may be unknown to many, but he has the skills to become a very productive starter in the NFL.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Amik Robertson Overview Position: Cornerback Height: 5’9″ Weight: 183 lbs School: Louisiana Tech Amik Robertson 2020 NFL Draft Profile As the 2020 NFL Draft draws near, many teams are going to need help in the secondary, but some may not be willing to address that need in the first couple rounds.
