He then switched to play wide receiver his freshman year. As a freshman at Tennessee, he only played one game where he tallied one catch for 13 yards. Callaway became more involved during his sophomore campaign by playing in 10 games and having 24 catches for 406 yards and five touchdowns. During his junior year at Tennessee Marquez Callaway participated in 11 games and accumulating 37 catches for 592 yards and two touchdowns. Callaway came into his senior year as one of the best players on Tennessee’s team and a focal point for their offense. In 13 games Callaway had 30 catches for 635 yards and six touchdowns for the best season of his career.

Strengths

Good size for a wide receiver in the NFL;

Fast enough to be a threat to the third level of defenses;

He can be a special teams asset because he has been used as a kick returner and punt returner in college;

Elite jump ball skills;

Good hand eye coordination;

Has shown the ability to make spectacular catches.

Weaknesses

Inconsistent at times and has games where he completely disappears;

Doesn’t have great route running ability;

Lacks full route tree used by NFL teams;

Doesn’t separate enough for defensive backs in coverage;

Does not possess the Run After Catch ability to be an NFL star;

Has very limited moves with the ball in his hands.

NFL Comparison: Keelan Cole

Teams With Need at Position: Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, Las Vegas Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts

Projection: 7th round or undrafted

Bottom Line on Marquez Callaway

Marquez Callaway could potentially be selected in the later rounds of the draft or become an undrafted free agent to start his NFL career. Callaway is a big play receiver that lacks short and medium route-running ability. He excels at what he does but seems to be pigeon holed into just being a downfield and jump ball receiver. If a team is looking for someone to that can be a punt and kickoff returner and then come in at the redzone and catch corner fades then maybe they would be interested in him.

He stands at only 6’2″ which is undersized to be a jump ball receiver in the NFL. There are a lot of improvements that need to be made in Callaway’s game if he wants to be at best a role player for an NFL team. He will most likely not make it past the roster cuts and bounce from practice squad to practice squad if he’s lucky.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Marquez Callaway could potentially be selected in the later rounds of the draft or become an undrafted free agent to start his NFL career.

[1647
266,61,56,3436,848,6504,89,40,46,52
post-85579","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","tag-denver-broncos","tag-football","tag-indianapolis-colts","tag-keelan-cole","tag-las-vegas-raiders","tag-marquez-callaway","tag-miami-dolphins","tag-nfl","tag-philadelphia-eagles","tag-san-francisco-49ers
["GET
