We’re about to see one of the best incoming rookie wide receiver classes this month. The franchise is likely to dip into the receiver pool late in the first round, now that they have their quarterback situation taken care of.

Denver Broncos Have Their Eye On Denzel Mims, CeeDee Lamb

Mims himself is confident. In an interview with Denver Post’s Kyle Newman, Mims says “more than definitely” he has a strong chance to go in the first round. His confidence is justified, considering that he leads the country in securing contested catches – 20 in 2019 (per Pro Football Focus).

His Strengths

Mims explained how he owns that nice little statistic. “We stayed late after practice, and I had to catch 100 contested balls. And if I don’t catch them, I’m going to be there all night. If I drop one, we start over. We just work on it every single day. And it turns out I’m good at it.” However, Mims is quick to acknowledge that he needs to work on transitioning out of his routes and running his routes. There’s already been improvement.

Mims’ College Stats

Mims was a three-year starter for Baylor. He accumulated 186 catches for 2,925 yards and 28 touchdowns. He was on the watch list of many a scout. His Senior Bowl and Combine performance lifted his draft stock. He soared up the board by having a really good year and all-star game, along with a strong Combine performance. He ticked all the boxes. Analyst Mel Kiper believes that “between the 19th and 25th pick is a great spot for him.”

Sutton and Mims – A Perfect Duo

Mims is a former Texas high school state champion in the 200 meter dash. This was put to good use at the Combine, where he ran a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash. He posted a position-best time of 6.66 seconds in the three-cone drill. The Broncos are looking for a highly adaptable complement to No. 1 receiver Courtland Sutton. With his ability to contort his body and catch passes from behind him, he could be the perfect choice.

Lamb Is A Smooth Athlete

Meanwhile Oklahoma’s Lamb has the size and length to be a threat on the boundary and the catch-point. He’s a smooth athlete with incredible body control. At the Combine, he clocked in at 4.5 in the 40. He’s certainly not the fastest wideout but that won’t stop him from playing at an elite level somewhere in the future. If he hones his speed and twitch, Sutton may have some fierce competition along the lines.

Lamb’s College Stats

In his last two seasons with the Sooners, he surpassed 60-plus receptions. His final year, he posted 1,327 receiving yards. His last two years, he pulled in a massive 25 touchdowns. In 2019 he averaged an unbelievable 21.4 yards per reception, never averaging lower than 17.5 YPC. Some are touting him as a complete receiver.

This season is the perfect time for the Broncos to fill their needs at receiver. It’s one of the most high-achieving classes, and Mims and Lamb are right there for the taking. If the Broncos pluck either player off the board, they’ll have some real talent to work with.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

The Denver Broncos are deep in the NFL Draft hunt and are reportedly keeping an eye on wide receivers Denzel Mims and CeeDee Lamb.

[1647,15,54
5273,5801,3588,266,6033,61,40,1173,1691,2679
post-85274","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","category-broncos","category-editorials","tag-2020-nfl-draft","tag-ceedee-lamb","tag-courtland-sutton","tag-denver-broncos","tag-denzel-mims","tag-football","tag-nfl","tag-nfl-draft","tag-oklahoma-sooners","tag-wide-receivers
["GET
