The interior defender is coming off his best season to date, appearing in a career-high 565 snaps while recording 22 run stops, four sacks, nine hits, and 21 hurries. According to Pro Football Focus, Elliott’s 18.7% pass-rush win rate led the nation among interior defenders.

Elliott initially started his collegiate career as a four-star recruit. A Houston native, Elliott actually began his career with Texas and saw minimal playing time as a true freshman. However, Elliott decided Texas wasn’t for him and transferred to Missouri. After sitting out the 2017 season thanks to eligibility rules, the defensive lineman returned to the field 2018. Elliott appeared in 395 snaps as a redshirt sophomore, recording 14 run stops, three sacks, three quarterback hits, and 14 hurries.

Strengths

High-motor player that never stops until the whistle blows;

Consistent player that rarely has bad weeks;

Solid against the run and the pass – should be able to play all three downs;

Steadily improved throughout his collegiate tenure;

Ideal build for the position;

Uses lateral agility to beat his man as well as brute strength.

Weaknesses

Poor testing numbers at the NFL Combine;

Only one season of meaningful data;

Can lose ground when double teamed;

Sometimes slow off the snap, causing him to lose leverage;

Takes a while to get going in his rush;

Needs some forward momentum to win as a bull rusher.

NFL Comparison: Pre-injury Sharrif Floyd

Teams With Need at Position: Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins

Projection: Mid 2nd Round

Bottom Line on Jordan Elliott

Jordan Elliott is a talented, fundamentally-sound player that doesn’t quite have the elite athleticism and upside required to be mentioned among the elite defensive tackle prospects. You always know what you’re getting from Elliott, as he rarely has bad games. He’s a solid three-down player that doesn’t need to come off the field, although he is slightly better against the pass. He improved with experience, which bodes well for his ability to pick up NFL concepts and adjust to the increase in talent. With an ideal frame at 6’-4” and 302 pounds, Elliott should be able to contribute right out of the gate.

Unfortunately, there is a ceiling for Elliott. Athleticism matters for defensive linemen, and Elliott isn’t special athletically. He definitely meets the minimum threshold to make it in the NFL, but he probably won’t ever develop into a superstar. He struggles to beat double teams, and can be late to react to the snap. He’s strong, but not strong that he can win without any momentum going into his blocks. Ultimately, he should develop into a good, but not great, starter along the defensive line.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

After two years with Missouri, defensive tackle Jordan Elliott looks to take his game to the professional level in the 2020 NFL Draft.

[1647
5273,61,6300,40
post-85088","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","tag-2020-nfl-draft","tag-football","tag-jordan-elliott","tag-nfl
["GET
