Whitworth has continued to defy the odds starting all 16 games at the age of 38. Many linemen who have played into their upper thirties end up suffering from old nagging injuries or tearing something new from overworking themselves. It is almost hard to believe Whitworth hasn’t missed a start in the last 3 seasons.

Whitworth has always been the constant in the trenches for the organizations fortunate enough to have his services. Most recently, he signed a three-year $36 million,$15 million guaranteed with the Rams in 2017. After signing that deal he went on to become a first-team all-pro while helping lead the rams to a NFC West division title. In 2018, Whitworth once again started all 16 games, made NFL’s top 100 players, and reached the Super Bowl. In 2019, age could have led to him slowing down a little. Receiving his career high in holding penalties with nine out of 14 total flags. The silver lining to that is that he saw his highest volume of snaps in his career at 38 and started every game.

Whitworth played college football for Louisiana State University where he was a National Champion under Les Miles. He was drafted in 2006 in the second round, 55th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals. Marvin Lewis originally had Whitworth playing inside at guard. However, during a rough injury patch, Lewis moved him to Left Tackle. Whitworth would finish that season at tackle, going on to hold that spot for the next ten years. While in Cincinnati, Whitworth had two second-team all-pro, one first-team all-pro, and three pro bowls. He also led his team to three AFC North division titles in 2009, 2013, and 2015.
