He was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn but only appeared in one game his rookie season. Then in 2012 with Ray Lewis sustaining an injury Week 6, Bynes would play in the remaining 10 games of the season; making three starts. He would record 34 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one pass defense and one quarterback hit. Bynes played on special teams in each of the Ravens four playoff games on road to a Super Bowl XLVII title.

Following the 2013 season, Bynes would sign a two-year(s)/$1.8 million deal with the Detroit Lions. He would spend the next three seasons in Detroit registering 142 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and four quarterback hits over 39 games. His 11 starts, 82 total tackles and 78% of snaps played during the 2015 season all remain career-highs. Bynes would sign with the Arizona Cardinals just prior to the start of the 2017 season and play two years with the club.

Bynes came to the Ravens in 2019 at a time in which the linebacking corps was in shambles. The Ravens had given 500+ yards in back-to-back games for the first time in franchise history and were already down three defensive starters. Prior to the acquisition of Bynes, Baltimore had given up the sixth-most yards, the 10th most points and ranked tied for 23rd in turnovers. From Week 5 on, the Ravens had the league’s best scoring defense, yardage defense and forced the most turnovers. Baltimore did not lose a regular-season game after the mid-season acquisitions of Bynes and L.J.
