He was traded to the New England Patriots for a seventh-round pick after playing just one game in Cleveland that year. His career in New England was short-lived. He played in just 10 games but flashed some of the potential teams saw in 2013, going for 720 yards and catching Tom Brady’s 500th career touchdown pass. Gordon stepped away from football in December and was later suspended by the NFL yet again. In August of 2019, he was reinstated, but was placed on IR early in the season and was later cut. The Seattle Seahawks signed Gordon in November, where he would stay until mid-December when he was suspended by the NFL for the fifth time.

2016-2017

After sitting out all of last season, Gordon filed for reinstatement and was awarded in the summer of 2016. He was suspended for four games in 2016. He then sat the rest of the season, choosing to check himself into a rehab facility. Gordon would not see the NFL again until late November of 2017, where he went for 85 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers.

2014-2015

However, Gordon had demons inside that he had yet to deal with. There had been red flags. He had substance-abuse issues at Baylor University, testing positive for marijuana and getting suspended. The Browns thought he had kicked the habit, but Gordon had not. In 2014, he was suspended for 10 weeks for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. He would come back and play five games until he was again suspended for the week 17 finale. Gordon would go on to miss both 2015 and 2016. In 2015, he was suspended indefinitely for again violating the substance-abuse policy.

Gordon has had one of the most tumultuous careers in NFL history. Originally selected by the Browns in the second round of the 2012 draft, Gordon had a breakout season in just his second year. He caught 87 balls for 1646 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games played. He was named to the Pro Bowl and was awarded First-Team All-Pro honors. Gordon was well on his way to becoming a superstar. After all, he put up over 1600 yards with the likes of Jason Campbell, Branden Weeden and Brian Hoyer throwing him the football.

Gordon clearly has a ton of red flags. However, if he is able to clean himself up, he has shown the potential to be a weapon in this league. At just 28 years old, Gordon is still young, especially considering the limited field time he has seen.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

A surprise signing since it was reported that Josh Gordon wouldn’t be automatically reinstated even with the NFL no longer punishing players for marijuana.

[36
7282
post-81890","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-news","tag-seattle-seahawks-news
["GET
