The NFL veteran is one of the best tackles in the game when healthy, but is clearly done with the Washington Redskins. The organization seemingly lost Williams’ trust after misdiagnosing a tumor, and Williams understandably doesn’t want to play for Washington any longer. The seven-time Pro Bowler can still be a viable player, but which teams are most likely to go after the former first-round pick?

Trent Williams Trade Team Fits

New York Jets

The New York Jets need to give Sam Darnold a chance to succeed. Darnold’s flashed his immense promise during his two-year career, but he needs someone to come along and help him be more consistent. Right now, Darnold has no playmakers in the passing game and one of the worst offensive lines in football.

Trading will Williams won’t singlehandedly fix everything, but it would be a huge step in the right direction. Acquiring Williams should give the Jets a decent offensive line, especially if they sign a guy like Joe Thuney in free agency. With the offensive line addressed, New York could then use their first-round pick on an elite wide receiver talent like Jerry Jeudy or Ceedee Lamb. Just like that, Sam Darnold would have everything he needs to prove he’s a legitimate franchise quarterback.

Cleveland Browns

Baker Mayfield may or may not be the future of the Cleveland Browns, but he won’t last another season with the same abysmal protection. Former General Manager John Dorsey completely ignored the offensive line last year, and improving the pass protection should be priority number one for Cleveland. Greg Robinson won’t be back for obvious reasons, and drafting a tackle can be dangerous. Typically, even the best prospects need a year or two to adjust to NFL life before becoming effective starters.

With Williams, the Browns would get an immediate starter to shore up arguably the most important position on the offensive line. Combining solid protection with a now-healthy Odell Beckham should be enough to make Baker Mayfield look like the guy who took the world by storm in 2018.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers just traded away their left tackle, so they might as well upgrade the position. The Chargers will probably have to part with their second-round pick to make this happen, but Trent Williams is well worth the cost. Los Angeles has tried to shore up their offensive line for what seems like an eternity, and they might actually be able to get it done if they can get Williams.

Trai Turner is a legitimate stud at guard, and combining him with Williams could give the Chargers a solid line. The Chargers are going to have a young quarterback under center sooner rather than later, and there’s no better way to ease a rookie’s transition to the NFL than by providing consistent, dependable protection.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins have the draft capital and cap space to do whatever they want in the upcoming months. Literally every position outside of maybe wide receiver is a need, and the Dolphins should utilize as many avenues as possible to improve the team. Even if the Dolphins send away a second-round pick, they’ll still have three first-round selections to build a young, dependable core.

Honorable Mentions: Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

The Washington Redskins gave Trent Williams permission to seek a trade, but where could the seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle land?

[22,8,18,4,6,8896
264,61,1501,89,218,1075,948,93
post-81698","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-washington-football-team","category-browns","category-chargers","category-dolphins","category-jets","category-washington-commanders","tag-cleveland-browns","tag-football","tag-los-angeles-chargers","tag-miami-dolphins","tag-new-york-jets","tag-trai-turner","tag-trent-williams","tag-washington-redskins
["GET
