The NFL Draft is right around the corner. There are a lot of teams in dire need of upgrades, and the Cowboys are included. Their past picks include\u00a0Zack Martin<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Tyron Smith<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Travis Frederick<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Ezekiel Elliott<\/a><\/strong>, and\u00a0Dak Prescott<\/a><\/strong>. Because of their recent success, Dallas is held to a high standard in the NFL Draft. The Cowboys are led by one of the league’s best scouts in Will McClay, and have regularly made great picks. Because Dallas missed the playoffs at 8-8, they will be looking to return to the playoffs. In order for them to return to the postseason, they need a good draft weekend, therefore placing the pressure directly on the front offices’ shoulders. Let’s dive into the Dallas Cowboys three-round mock draft.<\/p>\n

Three-Round Dallas Cowboys Mock Draft<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Round 1, Pick 17<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Xavier McKinney, Safety, Alabama [Scouting Report<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n

McKinney would be a solid first pick for the Dallas Cowboys. McKinney is a junior safety out of Alabama. In 2019, Xavier had 95 total tackles, four forced fumbles, and three interceptions. McKinney is a great safety, but some would say to steer clear of any safeties in the top 20. His combine performance, therefore, would prove that statement to be false. McKinney is a national champion and played in the big game twice. Because McKinney brings a championship attitude, he would fit right in with Mike McCarthy’s\u00a0<\/strong>vision. So, in order for McKinney to become a Cowboy, the only thing that needs to happen is for Jerry to make the call.<\/p>\n

Round 2, Pick 51<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Antoine Winfield Jr., Cornerback,<\/strong>\u00a0Minnesot<\/strong>a<\/strong><\/p>\n

Winfield Jr is the son of longtime Minnesota Viking, Antoine Winfield Sr<\/strong><\/a>. The Cowboys could possibly need a cornerback if they are to lose Byron Jones<\/a><\/strong>. Because Jones will most likely be a free agent, Dallas will have to replace their best corner. So, in order for the Cowboys to fill the void, they could draft a very proven corner. In 2019, Winfield Jr had 85 total tackles and seven interceptions. With only one defensed pass, Winfield proved to be a turnover magnet. In order to acquire Winfield, Dallas may need to trade up, therefore surrendering a later pick as well. Dallas could get a nice steal here at the 51st slot in the draft.<\/p>\n

Round 3, Pick 82<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Thaddeus Moss, Tight End, LSU<\/strong> [Scouting Report<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n

He is the son of, you may have guessed it, all-time wideout\u00a0Randy Moss<\/a><\/strong>. The junior Moss would be a nice grab for Dallas to give them a tight end to learn from and succeed\u00a0Jason Witten<\/a><\/strong>. Because Witten is near the end of his career, it would be nice for Moss to soak up his knowledge. Therefore, also alluding to Witten’s age, Moss would be a nice pick at only 21 years old. In 2019, Moss had 47 catches for 540 yards and four TDs. If Moss could learn from the grizzled veteran Witten, he can be a dangerous target for Dak Prescott. Because of a broken foot in the combine though, Moss’ draft stock may take a hit.<\/p>\n

Notable 3rd Round picks-\u00a0DeMarco Murray<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(2011),\u00a0Maliek Collins<\/a><\/strong> (2016),\u00a0Jourdan Lewis<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(2017),\u00a0Michael Gallup<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(2018)<\/em><\/p>\n

Dallas has the chance to upgrade their team in this years’ draft. They are in a good position to make important picks to bolster a roster that already has Super Bowl aspirations. If the Cowboys are to return to the playoffs, that path will start in the draft. Tune into the NFL Draft on April 23rd-25th.<\/p>\n
