Adams was one of the very few offensive tackles to start as a freshman. Over the course of his career at Washington, Adams received all-Pac-12 recognition twice. He suffered a torn ACL as a sophomore and missed the final handful of games. He then dealt with a back injury heading into his junior year that sidelined him for the season opener against Auburn.

Adams played his high school football at Wenatchee High School in Wenatchee, WA. He received offers from both Washington and Washington State and was also very interested in attending both Oregon and Oregon State. He made up his mind to attend the University of Washington and started a freshman for the Huskies.

Trey is a talented lineman who had he not suffered major injuries would be a sure-fire first-round NFL prospect. As he is considered high-risk injury-wise, he’ll likely fall to the second or even the third round. I could see him fitting in with a team like the Rams with their 52nd pick. He figures to be a potential starter and if he’s able to stay healthy, he’ll be a roster mainstay for years to come. He’s a potential anchor at tackle.

Strengths

very strong, will stand up defenders at the point of contact;

above-average football IQ understands all blocking schemes;

grip strength is off the charts;

has a tremendous length as a blocker;

stays on blocks often find blocks at the second level.

Weaknesses

less than extraordinary balance;

not an elite level athlete. Considered to be average athletically;

has struggled against smaller, faster defensive ends;

has a reputation for being injury-prone. Missed substantial time to injury;

does not have good lateral movement.

NFL Comparison: Matt Kalil

Teams With Need at Position: Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, Washington Redskins

Projection: Late first to early second round

Bottom Line

Trey Adams is an outstanding offensive lineman who would be a mid-first-round pick had it not been for a pair of injuries suffered in his sophomore and junior years. He rebounded as a senior and played very well, earning first-team all Pac-12 honors. Trey Adams could still go late in the first round, but will more than likely be drafted in the second round. He has tremendous size and above-average football IQ. He’s not fooled by stunts and does a great job recognizing defensive schemes. He can struggle against smaller, faster ends, but has great footwork that helps make up for that lack of speed. I could see him being a starter in this league for the next ten years. His best football is ahead of him.

Embed from Getty Images

Trey Adams is a very powerful offensive tackle and four-year starter for the Washington Huskies.
