Even at an advanced age, Brees continues to play at a high level. Despite missing five games due to a thumb injury, Brees finished the season with 27 touchdowns, which tied him with Jimmy Garoppolo and Carson Wentz for fifth most this season.

With three touchdown passes and zero interceptions on Sunday, @Saints QB @drewbrees became the fourth player with at least three touchdown passes and zero interceptions in four consecutive games in a single season in @NFL history. #NFL100 #NOvsCAR pic.twitter.com/NUVaRJQptS

— NFL345 (@NFL345) December 29, 2019

He is also still the unquestioned leader for the Saints organization. His impact in the New Orleans community, his love for the city and tenacity for the game rings true in his play. The all time leader in passing yards (77,416) and passing touchdowns (547) will try another crack at a second Super Bowl title.

https://twitter.com/NFLUK/status/1229812826270646272

What This Means for Future of Saints

For the immediate future the Saints have Brees. But this could mean the loss of either or both Teddy Bridgewater and Taysom Hill. While the decision was in flux, many arguments were made on who should be the Saints next quarterback. Now that question has been answered, it is time for the Saints to make some tough decisions.

With Bridgewater, the Saints know his body of work. Nine touchdowns in five games and five wins on his resume is something the Saints may not want to let go. But in the playoff game against the Vikings, it was clear that Taysom Hill needed to be on the field more than 10-15 plays a game offensively. Sean Payton affectionately compared Hill to Steve Young.

It will be an interesting summer for New Orleans. Do they draft a quarterback in this year’s draft or throw more money at Hill or Bridgewater? Only time will tell, but at least for now, the Saints have their signal caller for another year.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Drew Brees is set to return to the New Orleans Saints for his 20th NFL season.
