Starting off his collegiate career as a backup, Fromm took the starting job after Jacob Eason suffered an injury. Fromm never relinquished the position, taking Georgia all the way to the National Championship Game during his freshman season. While the Bulldogs couldn’t take down Alabama in the championship, Fromm earned the right to start in 2018 and 2019.

During his sophomore season, Fromm completed 67.4% of his passes for 2,761 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Fromm started all 14 games for the Bulldogs and improved on all of his major stats during his sophomore season. Fromm experienced a relative down season as a Junior but still finished the year with 2,860 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and five interceptions. On top of that, Fromm earned permanent team captain honors prior to the start of the season.

Fromm skipped his Senior year to declare for the 2020 NFL Draft. The yardage ranks fourth in team history while the touchdowns are second only to Aaron Murray.

Strengths

Smart, decisive player who takes great care of the football;

Advanced ability to look off defenders and create his own throwing lanes;

Above-average accuracy to all parts of the field, although not quite “elite” deep ball placement;

Exceptional touch and impressive ability to lead receivers;

Strong fundamentals and mechanics should translate to the NFL.

Weaknesses

Below-average arm strength;

Didn’t push the ball downfield, although that could be a reflection of Georgia’s coaching staff;

Can run if he has to, but won’t scare defenses with his legs;

Underwhelming Junior season;

Traditionalists may not like his below-average 6’-2” height.

NFL Comparison: Chad Pennington

Teams With Need at Position: Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots

Projection: Mid-late first

Jake Fromm Bottom Line

Jake Fromm will never be Patrick Mahomes, but he has what it takes to be a solid NFL starter. Fromm’s ability to work within Georgia’s system, read defenses, and do all the little things right should translate. Picking up the NFL game is perhaps the hardest part of transitioning to the NFL, and Fromm is ahead of the curve in terms of mental development.

Some will question Fromm’s ability to push the ball downfield, but I believe his underwhelming deep passing numbers had more to do with Georgia’s offense than Fromm himself. The Bulldogs hardly ran any deep passing routes, and Gerogia’s receivers never got open downfield. When he was actually allowed to throw downfield, Fromm was typically pretty accurate.

The biggest concern with Fromm comes from his below-average arm. You don’t need elite arm strength to succeed in the NFL if you have elite accuracy. Fromm’s accuracy is better than most, but it might not be enough to make up for his subpar cannon. That said, even with the arm questions, Fromm is well worth the risk for a quarterback-needy team picking near the middle to end of the first round.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Georgia Bulldogs three-year starting quarterback Jake Fromm opted to eschew his Senior year to declare for the 2020 NFL Draft.

[1647,2
5273,5580
post-80352","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","category-featured","tag-2020-nfl-draft","tag-jake-fromm
["GET
