The longtime Bengal initially suffered the injury in a late July training camp practice and supposed to only miss the first few weeks of the season. However, he suffered multiple setbacks and never stepped on the field. Cincinnati remained optimistic about Green’s odds to return and kept him on the active roster for most of the season. However, after 16 weeks, the Bengals finally decided to place him on the injured reserve.

A.J. Green initially entered the NFL as the fourth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Considered one of the most pro-ready receivers in recent memory, he immediately made an impact on the field. Teaming up with fellow rookie Andy Dalton, he helped guide the Bengals to a 9-7 record and a surprise postseason berth. Green was arguably the team MVP that season, as he recorded 65 receptions for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns.

Green only improved from there, as he recorded a combined 350 receptions for 5,114 yards and 38 touchdowns over the next four seasons. The Bengals made the playoffs in each one of his first five seasons, although they never managed to win a playoff game. Injuries limited him to just 10 games in 2016, but he still managed to earn a Pro Bowl nomination while recording 66 receptions for 964 yards and four touchdowns. Green managed to play a full 16-game season in 2017 before injury struck again and limited him to nine games in 2018.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Longtime Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J.
