With John Dorsey<\/a><\/strong> stepping down as the Cleveland Browns<\/a> general manager, the hunt is on for their next big decision-maker. The franchise was guided to a stronger position in the league due to Dorsey\u2019s knack for making the right choices. When it mattered. Cleveland needs to go in a different direction now. The new head coach will have significant input over who will be the new general manager. We previously discussed possible head coaches<\/a>. Now, let\u2019s look at the potential candidates for Cleveland Browns general manager.<\/p>\n

Potential Candidates For Cleveland Browns General Manager<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Andrew Berry<\/h3>\n

He has emerged as the top contender for the job. Andrew Berry is the current vice president of football operations for the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>. He previously served as the Browns vice president of player personnel from 2016-18. Four weeks after Paul DePodesta was hired, Berry became the team\u2019s chief strategy officer. According to Dan Justik of\u00a0 Dawg Pound Daily<\/a> , Browns owners and DePodesta are fans of Berry\u2019s work. Berry has demonstrated an ability to balance the analytics side and the football side of a front office. Furthermore, head coaches like to bring in people they\u2019re familiar with. If this is the case here, Kevin Stefanski would need to be in that head coach position.<\/p>\n

Nick Caserio<\/h3>\n

He\u2019s been with the New England Patriots<\/a> for 19 years, having served as the director of player personnel since 2008. Nick Caserio is considered the Patriots top football executive alongside Bill Belichick. In 2017, the Boston Globe called him the Perfect Patriot<\/a>. He was largely responsible for crafting the 53-man active rosters and played Belichick\u2019s right-hand man. Cleveland Indians<\/a> employee and long-time Browns fan Lakota Briggs gave some insight. He says Caserio is \u201chighly regarded in NFL circles and a likely choice (after Berry).\u201d Berry is a Cleveland native. As Briggs suggests, if New England\u2019s Josh McDaniels becomes Browns head coach, the chances go up further.<\/p>\n

Dave Ziegler<\/h3>\n

Dave Ziegler is another of New England\u2019s key chess pieces. Described as “an attention-to-detail-type grinder with a knack for understanding a player\u2019s strengths and weaknesses, while not sitting on the fence in his evaluations.” This is exactly what the Browns need. Ziegler is also known for his college links to Josh McDaniels, who\u2019s currently the strongest contender for the Browns head coaching gig.<\/p>\n

Eliot Wolf<\/h3>\n

He is currently Cleveland\u2019s assistant general manager. Eliot Wolf spend 14 seasons in the Green Bay Packers<\/a> front office. Many consider him to a be future NFL general manager. He previously worked with former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. As we know, McCarthy is interviewing for Cleveland\u2019s head coach opening. We can clearly to see how the narrative will play out if he\u2019s given the job.<\/p>\n

Scott Pioli<\/h3>\n

He got his big break working alongside Belichick as the Browns Pro Personnel Assistant in 1992. The Patriots won three Super Bowls during the Pioli\u2019s nine seasons in the Patriots front office. Pioli served as Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> general manager from 2009-2012, and has been the assistant general manager of the Atlanta Falcons<\/a> since 2014.<\/p>\n
