{"id":7878,"date":"2016-12-09T11:39:18","date_gmt":"2016-12-09T16:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/?p=7878"},"modified":"2016-12-09T11:39:18","modified_gmt":"2016-12-09T16:39:18","slug":"kansas-city-chiefs-week-14-takeaways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2016\/12\/09\/kansas-city-chiefs-week-14-takeaways\/","title":{"rendered":"Kansas City Chiefs Week 14 Takeaways"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Kansas City Chiefs<\/strong> faced a tough matchup on Thursday, December 8, 2016.\u00a0On a cold winter night, the <strong>Oakland Raiders<\/strong> came into Arrowhead stadium with the top spot in the AFC.\u00a0Kansas City had beat the Raiders in Oakland earlier the season but this game was much bigger.\u00a0Since then, the Raiders had rattled off six straight wins.\u00a0The Chiefs were looking for that home field advantage in the playoffs and the Raiders currently had it.\u00a0There were three big takeaways from the game that stood out.<\/p>\n<h2>Kansas City Chiefs Week 14 Takeaways<\/h2>\n<h3><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=JohnDe25,JohnDe24&amp;search=Derrick+Johnson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Derrick Johnson<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s Injury<\/h3>\n<p>It would be impossible to talk about the\u00a0game and not address Derrick Johnson\u2019s injury.\u00a0Johnson is the Chiefs all-time leading tackler.\u00a0Johnson is the leader of the Chiefs defense and losing him is huge. The Chiefs lost the former Texas Longhorn in 2014 to a torn Achilles as well.\u00a0That season the Chiefs barely missed the playoffs.\u00a0That will probably not be the case this season but it affects the defense.\u00a0The four-time Pro-Bowler is a major piece of this team. Now he&#8217;s lost for the rest of the year.<\/p>\n<h3>Young Secondary<\/h3>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/P\/PeteMa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marcus Peters<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BerrEr99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eric Berry<\/a> <\/strong>are the faces of the Chiefs secondary.\u00a0However, quarterbacks lately have been trying to avoid throwing the ball towards Peters. The Chiefs have been looking for players to step up to fill the role that <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=SmitSe99,SmitSe20,SmitSe21&amp;search=Sean+Smith&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sean Smith<\/a> <\/strong>left behind. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CarrDe02.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Derek Carr<\/a> <\/strong>has had a MVP caliber season so far and the Chiefs kept him in check.\u00a0Carr completed only 17 out of 41 passes for just 117 yards.\u00a0The receivers had a lot of dropped passes.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MitcTe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terrance Mitchell<\/a> <\/strong>broke up a big pass play on\u00a0fourth down that sealed the game in the Chiefs favor.\u00a0Mitchell had a lot of playing time during the game and he stepped up.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/K\/KelcTr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Travis Kelce<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HillTy00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyreek Hill<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Hill and Kelce were both mentioned in last week\u2019s takeaways and this week is no different.\u00a0Kelce is a Pro-Bowl tight end, that is a fact.\u00a0The former Cincinnati Bearcat tied a record against the Raiders that only two other tight ends have ever set.\u00a0 Kelce reached four straight games of over 100 yards receiving in the victory.<\/p>\n<p>This record ties former Chiefs tight end and future Hall of Famer, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GonzTo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tony Gonzalez<\/a>, <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GrahJi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jimmy Graham<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0These are the only three tight ends in the last 50 years to record four straight games of over 100 yards receiving in football history.\u00a0The Pro-Bowl tight end is becoming a big-time threat in the league and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=SmitAl03,SmitAl02&amp;search=Alex+Smith&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Smith<\/a> <\/strong>must continue to give him the ball.<\/p>\n<p>Tyreek Hill is becoming a star in the National Football League, as well.\u00a0The fifth-round draft pick put on a clinic against the <strong>Denver Broncos <\/strong>two weeks ago, and Week 14 was no different.\u00a0Hill scored on a 78-yard punt return and a 36-yard touchdown pass. Hill\u00a0has 4.25 40-yard dash speed that must be respected and is a legit threat in the passing game.\u00a0 People speculated that having <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MaclJe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeremy Maclin<\/a> <\/strong>back would hurt his stats but in all reality, it seemed to help him out.
