This decision came after an underwhelming season in which Dallas failed to reach the playoffs in a wide-open NFC East. Garrett wasn’t up for the task, as the Cowboys missed the playoffs despite a weak NFC East and a favorable schedule. He should land on his feet, as the New York Giants reportedly have some interest in the longtime divisional rival.

Garrett first became an interim head coach during the 2010 season. Taking over for an ineffective Wade Phillips after a 1-7 start, Garrett led the Cowboys to a 5-3 record to finish the season. This effort earned him the full-time job in 2011 and Garrett recorded 87 regular season and postseason wins as head coach. Despite the solid win total, Garrett never brought the Cowboys beyond the NFC Divisional Round.

Garrett first broke into the coaching ranks with the Miami Dolphins in 2005. Serving as the quarterbacks coach, Garrett spent two seasons in Miami before taking a job as the Cowboys offensive coordinator in 2007. He remained offensive coordinator from 2008 to 2010 but also earned the title of assistant head coach over this timeframe.

Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Jason Garrett served as a journeyman NFL backup. Garrett started his career on the New Orleans Saints, but couldn’t make the roster and spent the 1991 season playing in the Canadian Football League. He eventually landed with the Dallas Cowboys, winning two Super Bowls during his seven-year tenure. Garrett also played for the New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Miami Dolphins, but never saw the field as a member of those teams.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to part ways with head coach Jason Garrett after failing to take home the NFC East division crown.

[19,36
49,61,1296,889,142,40,246
post-78745","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cowboys","category-nfl-news","tag-dallas-cowboys","tag-football","tag-jason-garrett","tag-jerry-jones","tag-monday-night-football","tag-nfl","tag-nfl-news
["GET
