The New York Jets<\/strong> center Nick Mangold<\/a><\/strong> has had his season come to a premature end as he has been placed on the season-ending injured reserve.<\/p>\n

Nick Mangold’s Ankle Injury Lands Him on IR and Ends His Season<\/h2>\n

Mangold had struggled with the same ankle injury throughout this season. He originally sustained the injury in Week Seven<\/a><\/strong> against the Baltimore Ravens<\/strong>. Then Mangold re-aggravated the injury during rehab in preparation for Week Nine<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0against the Miami Dolphins<\/strong>. While Mangold was rehabbing he was out of the walking boot which he was wearing for the ankle and he\u00a0pushed himself<\/a> a little too much in preparation for practice.<\/p>\n

Mangold finally got in a game this week as he played during Monday Night Football<\/strong> against the Indianapolis Colts<\/strong>. Unfortunately for him, he once again re-aggravated the ankle injury. This time the Jets decided to put him on the injured reserve.<\/p>\n

What Does This Mean?<\/h3>\n

At 3-9, the Jets are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with four games left. Therefore the injury will not have an major impact on the Jets in 2016. However, some Jets beat reporters feel this could affect where Mangold\u00a0plays in 2017.<\/p>\n

The fact that Mangold will be age 33 in January and is coming off an injury doesn’t help. Also Over The Cap<\/a> indicates that he will have a cap hit of $9,075,000 next year. They also indicate that the Jets are currently on pace to be over the cap by $953,250. Therefore they must make some moves in order to stay under it and Mangold could be one of those moves.<\/p>\n

Mangold’s Success with the Jets<\/h3>\n

Whatever happens with Mangold next year does not undermine the success he has experienced with the Jets. Mangold was drafted in the first round (29th overall) by the Jets in the 2006 NFL Draft<\/strong>. During his 11 years with the Jets, he has been a seven-time\u00a0Pro Bowler<\/strong> and a two-time\u00a0First-Team All-Pro<\/strong>. Aside from this year he has also been known for his durability as he only missed four games from 2006-2015.<\/p>\n
