Last week everyone saw the Saints battle the San Francisco 49ers to the very end. The game was a legitimate battle that came down to which team could execute gutsy calls and which defense stepped up. While some counted them out, the Saints held their own but, ultimately, the Saints took themselves out the game. Their defense was a scattered mess towards the end and it showed. It was one of those moments they will wish to get back.

The Saints have already clinched the NFC South, but the loss made it more difficult to stay at the top of the NFC. In order to get back to the top of the conference, they basically need to win out and root for the Seattle Seahawks to win again against the 49ers.

New Orleans Saints Haunted by Week 14 Loss and Injuries

A Call To Remember

In Week 14 the Saints were up and the decision was made to go for a two point conversion. While it may not have changed the outcome of the game, that was a decision that came back to haunt New Orleans. Head coach Sean Payton wanted a holding call which didn’t come and the momentum shifted in favor of the 49ers.

Offensive Injuries

It’s almost the end of the regular season. That means some players are a bit beat down and fighting injuries. The Saints have been haunted by injuries, the biggest loss was Drew Brees in the beginning of the season. The positive note was a chance to see how Teddy Bridgewater could handle being the starter again.

The team has also had to play without Alvin Kamara. That gave Latavius Murray a chance to prove what he could do out of the backfield. Since Kamara has returned it seems like he is not playing with the same vigor as before his injury. This could mean his injury is still lingering. Lastly, Terron Armstead, Will Clapp, Jared Cook, and Zach Line were among the list of offensive players that have showed up on the injury report this season.

Defense Injuries

At the beginning of the season the Saints defense was a strength, but that unit is now a bit of a nightmare. The Saints have lost Marcus Davenport to a foot injury and Sheldon Rankins to a shoulder injury. Kiko Alonso has been out with a quad injury and A.J. Klein is missing time with a knee injury. Cameron Jordan has been sidelined with an abdomen injury. Also, Vonn Bell will miss the game against the Indianapolis Colts with a knee injury.

From losing their quarterback to other key starters, the Saints have to deal with various players missing time. They have to find a way to get through the season. Hopefully, by the end of regularly season, the team will be as healthy as possible so they can make a deep run in the postseason.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

The New Orleans Saints are haunted by their Week 14 loss and injuries.
