The New York Giants<\/a> are one of the league\u2019s most signature franchises and have a decorated championship record with eight NFL titles (four NFL Championships, four Super Bowls). But, the Giants 2011 Super Bowl season is a distant memory for all New York fans. Since then, they have only two winning seasons and one playoff berth in 2016. This year, the Giants are 2-9 through 11 games and are on their way to another 10-plus loss season. Here are three takes on how the Giants need to rebuild their roster.<\/p>\n

Rebuilding NFL Teams: New York Giants<\/h2>\n

Change the Old Guard<\/h3>\n

In Week 3, the Giants made a dramatic change to their offense by benching two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning<\/a><\/strong> for first-round pick Daniel Jones<\/a><\/strong>. But, the Maras also need to find new leadership in their management and coaching staff. The Giants are starting to build a younger offense, but Pat Shurmur is not using his players in the right way. In order for Dave Gettleman to make the necessary roster decisions, Shurmur needs to be on his way out.<\/p>\n

Defensive Scheme Needs to Go<\/h3>\n

In the mid-1980s, the Giants ran the 3-4 defense successfully under defensive coordinator Bill Belichick. The scheme worked because Lawrence Taylor<\/a><\/strong>, Harry Carson<\/a><\/strong>, Carl Banks<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and Gary Reasons<\/a><\/strong> were all athletic linebackers. Bettcher is trying to recreate the same system with Alec Ogletree<\/a><\/strong>, Markus Golden<\/a><\/strong>, Lorenzo Carter<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and David Mayo<\/a><\/strong>, but it has not worked. Gettleman needs to draft a top-10 linebacker in 2020, or Bettcher will also be walking out the door soon.<\/p>\n

Change the Conditioning\/Injury Staff<\/h3>\n

Injuries happen all of the time in the NFL, but the Giants have one of the worst conditioning staffs in the league. Sterling Shepard<\/a><\/strong> was out with a concussion for four weeks, and Saquon Barkley<\/a><\/strong> has not looked well since coming back from his injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/a>. The Giants have played so many backups this year and it has not played out well for their 2-9 record so far.<\/p>\n

A simple message to John Mara: Change is not easy, but it needs to happen now.<\/p>\n
