He runs the option well, he utilizes his legs to extend plays and is a threat to pick up yards on the ground if left unaccounted for.

Competitiveness

Brian plays with moxy. As a three-year starter, he commands the offense. Still, he can be guilty of trusting his arm too much at times and forcing throws into coverage. He’s delivered modest production throughout his career at MSU. I was really hoping we’d see him take a step forward during his senior campaign, but that did not happen.

Mental Alertness

Lewerke is a smart football player who understands how to manipulate the pocket. Tunnel vision is one of his biggest downfalls. He has a tendency to lock on to the receiver and not notice surrounding defenders.

Strength/Explosion

Brian battled a shoulder injury during the latter half of 2018, which caused a noticeable drop in performance. His durability is a big question mark moving forward. He has a good frame but will need to add more muscle to help with all the hits he takes.

Position Skill

Lewerke has average mechanics and good arm strength. He is certainly not afraid to stretch the field but is inconsistent at best when doing so. Ball security is a big issue with him. He has a tendency to hold the ball too long trying to make a big play and takes unnecessary sacks. He also struggles with ball placement, timing, anticipation and throws too many 50/50 balls in traffic.

Overall

Lewerke has had an up and down career at Michigan State, which points to consistency as an area of concern. Brian graded out as a fourth-round prospect. He’ll likely be taken as a camp body, in the fourth to sixth rounds; with any luck, Lewerke could earn his keep and progress as a quarterback with the right franchise.

Embed from Getty Images

Name: Brian Lewerke Position: Quarterback College: Michigan State Class: (RS) Senior Height: 6’3″ Weight: 212 lbs Draft Grade: Fourth Round Draft Projection: Fourth to fifth round Scout Talk: Michigan State Quarterback Brian Lewerke Athletic Ability Lewerke has decent athleticism and overall speed.
