Scout Talk: LSU Quarterback Joe Burrow<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Athletic Ability<\/h3>\n

Joe Burrow<\/a> has average agility but does show good North\/South speed that can burn you if left unaccounted for; he also runs the option well. His lateral quickness is underwhelming, but he does a good job of extending the play and allowing time for his guys to get open.<\/p>\n

Competitiveness<\/h3>\n

Joe has grown into a great team leader during his tenure at LSU. He doesn\u2019t play with a lot of emotion. Rather, he’s more of a calming presence in the huddle; but is a tough football player nonetheless. He\u2019s production has skyrocketed during his second season in Baton Rouge.<\/p>\n

Mental Alertness<\/h3>\n

2018 SEC Academic Honor Roll. 2016 Academic All-Big Ten Conference. At times, Burrow has a tendency to stare down his target and forgets to work through his progressions. He will often bail on a play too soon if the first option isn\u2019t available and try to run.<\/p>\n

Strength\/Explosion<\/h3>\n

Joe has a good frame that could add more muscle and he’ll need to if he plans on running as much at the NFL level. He can be a decent goal-line threat but lacks overall play strength to be consistent at it.<\/p>\n

Position Skill<\/h3>\n

Burrow shows great anticipation, ball placement, and accuracy on short and intermediate throws. He has good touch on back shoulder fades but lacks top tier arm strength, he just doesn\u2019t have much zip on his throws. While he does have the ability to escape, he lacks overall pocket awareness. He has above average mechanics but needs to improve on play-action and selling the fake.<\/p>\n

Overall<\/h3>\n

No one\u2019s draft stock has risen more during the 2019 season than Joe Burrow. Mathematically, he grades out as a mid-second-round prospect. That being said, if LSU can continue their remarkable run into the playoffs, I wouldn\u2019t be surprised to see Joe selected in the top 10. This might be a slight overreach given his shortcomings. However, if a franchise is looking to toss someone into the fire on day one, there certainly will be some growing pains but Joe could hold his own.<\/p>\n
