The pressure is on for the undefeated Niners. It is a pressure this franchise isn\u2019t used to; can they stand up to the heat?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>The Last Undefeated Team Standing<\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who Could Have Seen This Coming?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The short answer: no one. Nobody saw such a meteoric rise coming for San Francisco. Can you blame them after the Niners <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/schedule\/_\/name\/sf\/season\/2018\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">abysmal 2018 season<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with only four wins? Now, only halfway through the season, San Francisco has already doubled its last season performance. The big, bad boys out of the Bay sit comfortably at the top of their division at 8-0. The division leaders are also topping team efficiency ratings with a total DVOA of 46.3 percent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/coaches\/ShanKy0.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Kyle Shanahan <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and his team are gearing up to take on their toughest divisional opponent yet. Under this head coach\u2019s leadership, the Niner\u2019s have historically struggled against divisional opponents. But after <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gabrielledunham.com\/2019\/10\/14\/time-to-start-taking-san-franciscos-streak-seriousl\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a dominating performance from their defense against defending the NFC Champions <\/span><b>Los Angeles Rams <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">back in week six and a hard-fought victory over the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/cardinals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Cardinals<\/a>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Niners have become the team to beat out of the NFC West. A week from tonight it will be a battle between the potential MVP <\/span><b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WilsRu00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russell Wilson<\/a><\/strong><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a San Francisco defense that was shockingly underwhelming in this past Thursday\u2019s matchup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Francisco\u2019s Main P<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ressure Point<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This season has been one long highlight reel for 49ers\u2019 defense. Incredible management by defensive coordinator <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/coaches\/SaleRo0.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Robert Saleh<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> combined with fresh, young talent in defensive end <\/span><b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BosaNi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Bosa<\/a><\/strong><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and linebacker <\/span><b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WarnFr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fred Warner<\/a><\/strong><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the veteran leadership of players like cornerback <\/span><b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SherRi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Richard Sherman<\/a><\/strong> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been a major key to their successful season. According to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.footballoutsiders.com\/dvoa-ratings\/2019\/week-8-dvoa-ratings\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> DVOA ratings<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the San Francisco defense has been in a consistent back and forth with the New England defense for the top defense in the league.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ravens delivered a devastating blow to the Patriots\u2019 defense last night in their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/game\/_\/gameId\/401127899\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">37-20 victory<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, New England\u2019s first loss of the season. But, don\u2019t think Saleh and his men are celebrating just yet. After their disappointing showing against Arizona this Thursday there was one thing very clear to this franchise: it\u2019s not enough to just win.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the postgame press conference, Sherman didn\u2019t hold back his frustrations with the defensive performance despite their win over Arizona.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s never about the results.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thank goodness our offense executed. But it&#8217;s about the process<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d said Sherman. \u201cIt\u2019s humbling. It\u2019s humbling for the defense. We\u2019ve got a tough game against Seattle next week, so yeah. You\u2019ve got to tighten things up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They Need to Tame the Offense<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sherman and his defense allowed the Cardinals 357 yards, the most they\u2019ve allowed all season. Rookie quarterback <\/span><b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MurrKy00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyler Murray<\/a><\/strong> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was a threat in the pocket according to San Francisco\u2019s own <\/span><b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BuckDe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DeForest Buckner<\/a><\/strong><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who told reporters Murray \u201cwas like a little squirrel back there. It was hard to keep him contained.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Murray\u2019s mobility allowed him to throw for two touchdowns and 241 yards. When it comes to pinning down an offense, the defensive side coming out of San Francisco has its work cut out for them. They must prepare to take on<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/qbr\/_\/group\/3\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the top quarterback of the NFC West <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Russell Wilson before they\u2019re back to take on Murray and the Cardinals once again the following week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If they hope to keep their undefeated streak alive it is going to be on the defense to dismantle the Seattle offense that has averaged 27.6 points per game this season and is currently ranked third in the league for offensive efficiency.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a defense <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamrankings.com\/nfl\/stat\/opponent-yards-per-game\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that typically only allows 241 yards per game<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the outlandish performance against Arizona shouldn\u2019t have San Francisco fans too worried. But the coaching staff is making sure nobody is taking their undefeated record for granted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019re real excited about 8-0 but that doesn\u2019t mean anything,\u201d said Shanahan.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not All Bad News in the Bay<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI thought Jimmy played a hell of a game,\u201d said Shanahan.\u00a0 \u201cThat was his best game yet probably.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can take all of the guesswork out of it. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GaroJi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jimmy Garoppolo<\/a><\/strong> without a doubt put on his best performance of the 2019 season up against the Cardinals this Thursday. Garoppolo threw for four touchdowns and 317 passing yards. He maintained a completion rate of 75.7 percent, 3.9 percent above his overall 2019 season average. For the 2019 season, the Niners\u2019 QB has a QBR of 69.1. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/16760\/jimmy-garoppolo\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this one matchup against the Cardinals, his QBR shot up to 92.2<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was no shortage of praise for \u2018Jimmy G\u2019 in the post-game press conference. Teammates and coaches were hailing his efforts as a saving grace for the franchise. Even wide receiver <\/span><b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SandEm00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Emmanuel Sanders<\/a><\/strong><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> couldn\u2019t take all the credit when the questions came pouring in about the offensive performance. Sanders had a great game catching seven passes for 112 yards and a touchdown as the first half came to a close.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI couldn\u2019t even take the credit,\u201d said Sanders. \u201cI couldn\u2019t even pound my chest all I just had to point at Jimmy.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, the Niners were able to take home the win because they were the most efficient offense on the field. They ended off the night with 411 yards, averaging 6 yards per play. They are going to need to keep this efficiency consistent as they enter into preparation for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/seahawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seattle Seahawks<\/a> defense they\u2019ll Monday Night.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The good news for San Francisco is that the Seattle defense is also coming off of a lackluster performance from this weekend\u2019s way-to-close-for comfort win over the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/buccaneers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Tampa Bay Buccaneers <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in overtime. Garoppolo and his passing offense can prove to be a real weapon against this defense that just gave up 319 passing yards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only Time Will Tell\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This season\u2019s unexpected underdog are entering the toughest leg of their regular season schedule. Their journey so far hasn\u2019t exactly been a walk in the park.
