The breakdown will contain \u201cthe best\u201d at each unit followed by \u201cthe rest\u201d in descending order.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>2019 NFC South Breakdown by Position: The Defense and Special Teams<\/h2>\n<h3>Defensive Line<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Best: <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/saints\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Orleans Saints<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rest: <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carolina Panthers<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/falcons\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlanta Falcons<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/buccaneers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For much of 2018&#8211;and frankly since 2006&#8211;much of the praise given to the New Orleans Saints have been toward the offense. When the team\u2019s offensive attack lost steam down the stretch, the defense played huge; that improved play was caused by the defensive line. Recording double-digit sacks for the fourth time in six seasons, Pro Bowler <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JordCa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cameron Jordan<\/a><\/strong> continues to be one of the league\u2019s top edge rushers. Playing all 16 games and tallying eight takedowns, defensive tackle <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RankSh00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sheldon Rankins<\/a><\/strong> played at an All-Pro level; his career year aided New Orleans in finishing with the league\u2019s second-best run defense. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/O\/OnyeDa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Onyemata<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BrowMa03.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Malcolm Brown<\/a><\/strong> are solid veteran contributors along the line. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DaveMa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marcus Davenport<\/a><\/strong> showed flashes as a rookie, but more consistent outings from him will further boost a defense that finished last year with 49 sacks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Panthers made a splash in June by adding <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McCoGe99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gerald McCoy<\/a><\/strong> to their defensive line. Coming off his seventh-consecutive season with at least six sacks, the perennial Pro Bowl defensive tackle will be paired with all-star defensive lineman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/ShorKa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kawann Short<\/a><\/strong>. McCoy\u2019s presence should make matters simpler for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/P\/PoexDo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dontari Poe<\/a><\/strong>, who hasn\u2019t performed at the peak Pro Bowl level from his time with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/chiefs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kansas City Chiefs<\/a>. With the experience and pedigree along this front, Carolina should surpass the 35 sacks they collected in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Defensive tackle <strong>Grady Jarett<\/strong> was outstanding for Atlanta last season, compiling 52 tackles and six sacks from the inside. The 14-game display earned the 25 year old a lucrative four-year\/$68 million dollar contract. Unfortunately for the Falcons, the elite-graded run stuffer is the only high-end contributor on the defensive line. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McKiTa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Takkarist McKinley<\/a><\/strong> has 13 takedowns in two NFL seasons, but he hasn\u2019t been transcendent enough to warrant much attention. Hopefully for Atlanta, newcomers<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BailAl00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Allen Bailey<\/a><\/strong> and <strong>Tyeler Davidson<\/strong> will help the team finish better than its 37 sacks from a season ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In efforts to replace Gerald McCoy, the Buccaneers acquired his 2010 NFL draft mate, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SuhxNd99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ndamukong Suh<\/a><\/strong>. Though he\u2019s been a consistent rush stopper throughout his career, Suh hasn\u2019t fully lived up to his potential. Since his strong 10-sack rookie outing, he\u2019s only eclipsed eight or more takedowns twice since 2011. Drafted in 2013, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GholWi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">William Gholston<\/a><\/strong> has been largely underwhelming throughout his time in the pros. Starting only eight games in 2018, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AlleBe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beau Allen<\/a><\/strong> should be significantly more productive than 20 tackles and two sacks. With the talented offensive lines in the NFC South, Tampa Bay will struggle trying to build off its 19th-placed sack total and 24th-ranked rushing defense.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Linebacker<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Best: Carolina Panthers<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rest: New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any linebacker corps that features <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/K\/KuecLu00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke Kuechly<\/a><\/strong> will be formidable and highly regarded. The superstar backer posted his most tackles since 2014 (130) to go with his personal best 20 tackles for loss. Earning his sixth-consecutive Pro Bowl honor and fifth career First-team All-Pro designation, Kuechly remains the best at his position. Losing franchise great <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DaviTh20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thomas Davis<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/I\/IrviBr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bruce Irvin<\/a><\/strong> was brought in to replace him. Achieving career highs in stops (79), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/ThomSh01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shaq Thompson<\/a> looks to be a reliable every-down starter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Already an improved unit in 2017, the Saints linebackers were a brighter spot a season ago. Posting 110 tackles and setting career highs in sacks and forced fumbles, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DaviDe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Demario Davis<\/a><\/strong> free agent signing proved to be a success.<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/K\/KleiAJ00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A.J. Klein<\/a><\/strong> has also been an excellent off-season pickup for New Orleans. Despite currently being a backup, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RobeCr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Craig Robertson<\/a><\/strong> is another player who can fill in at a moment&#8217;s notice. If he can shake off his injury woes, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AnzaAl00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Anzalone<\/a><\/strong> could develop into another key contributor. Regardless of who\u2019s on the field, the Saints should be proud of the second-ranked rush defense product they have on the football field.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Buccaneer linebacker position was decimated this off-season. From losing <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AlexKw00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kwon Alexander<\/a><\/strong> in free agency to losing <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DaviLa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lavonte David<\/a><\/strong> to injury, the unit isn\u2019t in the greatest place. The team did draft the highly-touted <strong>Devin White<\/strong> from LSU, but rookie performances can be unpredictable. Also, Tampa selected <strong>Anthony Nelson<\/strong> for insurance at the position. Having veterans <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BucaDe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Deone Bucannon<\/a><\/strong> and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/N\/NassCa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carl Nassib<\/a><\/strong> produce at a high level would be greatest case scenario for the Bucs in 2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alike its defensive line, Atlanta only has one elite-level player at linebacker while everyone else is essentially replaceable. Drafted in 2016, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JoneDe01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Deion Jones<\/a><\/strong> was a stat stuffer in each of his first two seasons. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2017\/01\/29\/top-10-pro-bowl-snubs-2016-season-edition\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dubbed as a Pro Bowl snub by our website as a rookie<\/a>, the budding star backer made the NFL All-Star game in 2017. Injury ended his season in 2018, and his absence was sorely missed. Another 2016 draftee, <strong>De\u2019Vondre Campbell<\/strong>, simply has yet to be a factor on defense. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excluding his explosive 15.5-sack 2016 campaign,<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BeasVi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vic Beasley<\/a><\/strong> has not lived up to his draft billing. Despite the underachievements, Jones\u2019 return should give this corps a boost.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Cornerback<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Best: New Orleans Saints<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rest: Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A liability for much of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BreeDr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Drew Brees<\/a>&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/P\/PaytSe20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sean Payton<\/a> era, the Saints have found quality guys to play the cornerback position. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LattMa01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marshon Lattimore<\/a><\/strong> had an excellent start to his NFL career, winning the 2017 Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Though he started slow in 2018, he gradually returned to his first-year form down the stretch. After an underwhelming time with the New York Giants, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/ApplEl00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eli Apple<\/a><\/strong> has shown that he can be trusted as a number-two corner.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Falcons defense took a significant dip in 2018, but they still have cornerbacks they can rely on. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From 2013-2018, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TrufDe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Desmond Trufant<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AlfoRo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robert Alford<\/a><\/strong> silently became a top-tier corner duo. Although Trufant has only made one Pro Bowl (2015), he\u2019s recorded 72 passes defended and nine interceptions in his career. Though the franchise lost Robert Alford to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/cardinals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Cardinals<\/a>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/O\/OlivIs00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Isaiah Oliver<\/a><\/strong> was a solid second corner in 2018.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As still proven true, Carolina\u2019s secondary hasn\u2019t been the same since <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=NormJo01,NormJo00&amp;search=Josh+Norman&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Norman<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s departure to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/redskins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Redskins<\/a>. That said, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BradJa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">James Bradberry<\/a><\/strong> has done his best to fill that All-Pro void with 35 defended passes and five interceptions the past three seasons. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JackDo02.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Donte Jackson<\/a><\/strong> gave the secondary a nice lift in 2018, so having him continuing to improve will bode well for the Panthers defense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With longtime defensive back <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GrimBr20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brent Grimes<\/a><\/strong> no longer on the roster, the Bucs got much younger at the position by drafting two players at the position. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HargVe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vernon Hargreaves<\/a> <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">broke up 10 passes as a rookie, but starting only eight games in two seasons, Tampa needs the former University of Florida defender to remain healthy and eventually take over as the number-one player on the defensive perimeter. Playing in 13 games a season ago, Tampa Bay needs <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DaviCa02.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carlton Davis<\/a><\/strong> to be a major force at the cornerback spot.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Safety<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Best: Atlanta Falcons<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rest: New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atlanta was decimated with injuries throughout 2018; one of their casualties was Pro Bowl safety <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/N\/NealKe01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keanu Neal<\/a><\/strong>. Putting up a career-best season in 2017, the Falcons sorely missed the defensive back\u2019s versatility during his time away. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/K\/KazeDa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Damontae Kazee<\/a><\/strong> did an unbelievable job in Neal\u2019s absence&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2019\/01\/26\/top-10-pro-bowl-snubs-2019-season-edition\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">earning a spot on our site\u2019s Pro Bowl snub list<\/a>&#8211;put his performance wasn\u2019t enough to overtake the team\u2019s health issues. With Neal returning, along with the presence of veteran <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AlleRi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ricardo Allen<\/a><\/strong>, the Falcons clearly have the best safety bunch within the division.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Football fans all over will forever reflect on the \u201cMinnesota Miracle,\u201d but even that iconic play should never take away <\/span><b><\/b><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=WillMa03,WillMa06,WillMa21&amp;search=Marcus+Williams&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marcus Williams<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018 awesome 2017 rookie campaign. After sporadic safety production in preceding seasons, Williams stabilized the position for the Saints with 71 tackles, seven pass deflections and four interceptions in his first season. He was so impressive that Pro Football Focus gave him an 89.2 overall grade, good for sixth at this position. Though he dipped statistically in 2018, Williams still graded out in the 70 range. Alike Williams, <\/span><b><\/b><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BellVo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vonn Bell<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also had stat reduction, but he did conclude last season with career highs in tackles (88) and tackles for loss (four).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In efforts to replace <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/ColeKu99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kurt Coleman<\/a><\/strong>, the Panthers acquired <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/ReidEr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eric Reid<\/a><\/strong> in 2018. While not playing at the elite level from his early-San Francisco days, Reid did manage to achieve his highest tackle amount since his rookie season (71). Starting 13 games last year, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BostTr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tre Boston<\/a><\/strong> set personal bests in stops (79) and pass deflections (nine). Notwithstanding their place in this safety hierarchy, they can be the best duo in the division by season\u2019s end.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tampa Bay has had steady productivity from eight-year defender <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/ContCh00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Conte<\/a><\/strong>. From 2012-2017, Conte recorded at least 64 tackles and five pass deflections every season except one. After playing only three games last year, the Bucs should get a huge jolt to their defensive backfield. Finishing with 71 tackles and four defended passes a year ago, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WhitJo03.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Whitehead<\/a><\/strong> will be a nice complement to the veteran safety.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Special Teams<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Best: New Orleans Saints<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rest: Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finishing ninth in field goals made last season, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LutzWi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wil Lutz<\/a><\/strong> has shown once again that he\u2019s a dependable special teams scorer. Although 2018 was a quiet year due to the Saints\u2019 high-octane offense, 2012 Pro Bowler <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MorsTh00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thomas Morstead<\/a><\/strong> continues to distance himself as the franchise\u2019s greatest punter going into year 11.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the struggles of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TaveGi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Giorgio Tavecchio<\/a><\/strong>, the kicker position seems to be open for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/bryanmat01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Bryant<\/a><\/strong>. Already the franchise&#8217;s all-time leading scorer, the longtime special teams contributor can build on that mark even more. On the team since 2011, <strong>Matt Bosher<\/strong> is still the team\u2019s go-to punter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carolina\u2019s special teams group suffered a major loss as kicker <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GanoGr44.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graham Gano<\/a><\/strong> will miss the entire 2019 campaign; rookie <strong>Joey Slye<\/strong> will reportedly take his place, per multiple reports. Even with solid punter<strong> Mike Palardy<\/strong> in place, headlines will absolutely revolve around the Panther kicking game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the departure of <strong>Martin Grammatica<\/strong>, the Buccaneers haven\u2019t had much consistency at the kicker spot. Their 2016 second-rounder <\/span><b><\/b><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AguaRo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Roberto Aguayo<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was a disappointment. Converting 83 percent with the New York Jets in 2017, <\/span><b><\/b><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CataCh00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chandler Catanzaro<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> seemed to be an upgrade, but he\u2019s no longer on the roster. Averaging 44 yards per punt in 2018, the Bucs will hope that <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/P\/PiniBr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bradley Pinion<\/a><\/strong> will be a plus in special teams.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>NFC South Coaching<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Best: New Orleans Saints<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rest: Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Drew Brees under center, Sean Payton turned the franchise into offensive juggernauts and perennial playoff contenders. The 2006 Coach of the Year has led the Saints to five NFC South Titles (2006, 2009, 2011, 2017, 2018) and the Super Bowl XLIV Championship. Since 2006, New Orleans has finished with a top-five offense every season except twice (six times as the league\u2019s best offense). He is greatly responsible for bringing a historically-unsuccessful franchise, that was displaced by Hurricane Katrina, to its golden age. Holding the franchise record in career coaching wins (118), his offensive expertise has brought the Saints to unparalleled and unforeseen heights.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After missing the playoffs his first two seasons, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RiveRo20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron Rivera<\/a> led the Carolina Panthers to postseason play in 2013 en route to claiming Coach of the Year honors. With the team\u2019s dominant 15-1 campaign for 2015, Rivera took home the COY distinction for the second time. In a division that never had a repeat champion from 2002-2013, he guided his franchise to a three-peat during the 2013-2015 stretch. With a strong coach construbie a great foundation, the Panthers will always be a formidable franchise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Serving as the defensive coordinator for an historically-great <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/seahawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seattle Seahawks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> group, Dan Quinn accepted the challenge of being head coach for the Atlanta Falcons in 2015. Going 8-8 in his first year, he went 11-5 in 2016 and clinched a Super Bowl berth. With the team missing postseason play last year, a deep run into January should buy the veteran coach some extra time on the Atlanta sidelines.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WinsJa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jameis Winston<\/a>\u2019s starting role on the line, the Buccaneers called Bruce Arians to help guide the talented, yet embattled, passer.
