While teams like the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/patriots\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New England Patriots<\/a> seem penciled in the playoffs before a season even starts, each year roughly half of the playoff participants are new. Dating back to 2011, here are the amount of new teams (out of 12) that have made the playoffs each year: six, four, five, five, four, seven, eight, seven. We are in the midst of an incredible three year run where more than half the teams in the NFL playoffs are new. Given that this eight year span averages to close to six new teams each year, here are the six most likely new NFL playoff teams for the 2019 season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New NFL Playoff Teams For 2019 Season<\/span><\/h1>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minnesota Vikings<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/vikings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Vikings<\/a> endured a disappointing 8-7-1 season a year after making the NFC Championship game. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CousKi00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Kirk Cousins<\/strong><\/a> tenure did not get off to a great start, as he fell victim to shoddy offensive line play (Vikings guards allowed 77 pressures) and running back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CookDa01.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Dalvin Cook<\/strong><\/a> missed five games. To help bolster a sputtering offense, the Vikings hired <strong>Gary Kubiak<\/strong> to serve as an assistant head coach, while drafting <strong>Irv Smith Jr.<\/strong> (tight end from Alabama) and <strong>Garrett Bradbury<\/strong> (center from NC State). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Look for Cousins to have a big year in year two, as he has had more reps with wide receivers\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DiggSt00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Stefon Diggs<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/ThieAd00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Adam Thielen<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In addition, <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minnesota re-signing linebacker\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BarrAn00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Anthony Barr<\/strong> <\/a>and having defensive end\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GrifEv99.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Everson Griffen<\/strong><\/a> healthy for a full year will help the continuity of a defense that is always among the league\u2019s elite.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An NFC North Division championship is certainly a possibility in 2019, while a wild card berth is probably this team\u2019s floor.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Bay Packers<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/packers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Green Bay Packers<\/a> stumbled to a 6-9-1 record last year amidst the clear riff in the relationship between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RodgAa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Aaron Rodgers<\/strong><\/a> and coach <strong>Mike McCarthy<\/strong>. McCarthy was replaced by offensive-minded <strong>Matt LaFleur<\/strong>\u00a0this off-season. LaFleur will attempt to maximize Rodgers&#8217; final years in the NFL. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Bay selected cornerbacks with their top two picks (<strong>Jaire Alexander<\/strong> and <strong>Josh Jackson<\/strong>) to help solidify a shaky secondary. The signings of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AmosAd00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Adrian Amos<\/strong> <\/a>(safety), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SmitPr00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Preston Smith<\/strong><\/a> (outside linebacker), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SmitZa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Za\u2019Darius Smith<\/strong><\/a> (outside linebacker) further Green Bay\u2019s commitment to be elite on that side of the ball to complement Rodgers\u2019 supreme arm talent. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For these first two predictions to come true, it means that the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/bears\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Bears<\/a> will have to regress. That is exactly what could happen this year, as the Vikings and Packers will battle for the division with the other earning a wild card berth. The Packers should end up being one of the new NFL playoff teams this season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cleveland Browns<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So much has been made of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/browns\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cleveland Browns<\/a> off-season that it is hard to forget that the franchise has been the laughing stock of the league for so long. The emergence of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MayfBa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Baker Mayfield<\/strong><\/a> in his rookie season already gave Browns fans reason for optimism. Then Cleveland added wide receiver\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BeckOd00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Odell Beckham Jr.<\/strong><\/a> to pair with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LandJa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jarvis Landry<\/strong><\/a>. The Browns also have a solid backfield rotation with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/ChubNi00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Nick Chubb<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HuntKa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Kareem Hunt<\/strong><\/a> (once he comes back from suspension). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The defense is loaded with the additions of defensive tackle\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RichSh00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Sheldon Richardson<\/strong><\/a> and defensive end\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/V\/VernOl00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Olivier Vernon<\/a> <\/strong>via free agency and draft pick cornerback\u00a0<strong>Greedy Williams<\/strong>. New coach <strong>Freddie Kitchens<\/strong> has a lot to work with. It&#8217;s almost inconceivable, given their history, but the Browns look primed to unseat the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/ravens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baltimore Ravens<\/a> as AFC North champions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pittsburgh Steelers<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s easy to be a believe in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/steelers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> in 2019 because of \u201caddition by subtraction.\u201d The team no longer has to face daily questions about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BellLe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Le\u2019veon Bell<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s holdout, or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BrowAn04.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Antonio Brown<\/strong><\/a>&#8216;s antics. Instead, both coach <strong>Mike Tomlin<\/strong> and quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RoetBe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ben Roethlisberger<\/strong><\/a> can block out all the noise and focus on how to get the most out of this football team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SmitJu00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>JuJu Smith-Schuster<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0should have a breakout season as he is now the number one receiver in Pittsburgh. The Steelers just missed the playoffs by a half game last year, and without distractions and off-field drama, they will make their run at the AFC North division title and at least quality for the postseason as a wild card team. Either way the Steelers should be one of the new NFL playoff teams this season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atlanta Falcons<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/falcons\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlanta Falcons<\/a> struggled mightily in 2018, finishing 7-9 and not seriously challenging for a playoff spot. Protecting quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RyanMa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Matt Ryan<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was the team&#8217;s biggest issue last season; Ryan was sacked 42 times. The Falcons, at least on paper, seemed to make quality moves in the draft this year, including adding two outside linebackers in the first round (<strong>Chris Lindstrom<\/strong> and <strong>Kaleb McGary<\/strong>). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atlanta brings in new offensive coordinator <strong>Dirk Koetter<\/strong> to try to revive a sputtering offense, while coach <strong>Dan Quinn<\/strong> will be in charge of defensive play calling. New coaching philosophies and a revamped offensive line are exactly what Atlanta needs to get over the hump and earn a playoff spot in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Francisco 49ers<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GaroJi00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jimmy Garoppolo<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/49ers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Francisco 49ers<\/a> fans trust. If the 49ers quarterback can stay healthy for a full season instead of just the three games he played last season, big things are in store for the 49ers. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/rams\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Rams<\/a>\u00a0will most likely regress this year, especially with the unknown status of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GurlTo01.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Todd Gurley<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s knee. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expect the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/seahawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seattle Seahawks<\/a> to also take a step back this year, opening the door for the 49ers to make a run at the playoffs and division title. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/K\/KittGe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>George Kittle<\/strong><\/a> had a historic year at tight end last year, setting the single season record in receiving yards for the position. Kittle and Garoppolo will formulate a dynamic connection this year and Kittle will put up monster numbers once again. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/nick-bosa-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Nick Bosa<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0should energize the defense which possesses a good blend of youth and experience.
