In four years at SJSU, Oliver only amassed 38 receptions and seven touchdowns in limited action, playing only 30 games. For comparison, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/caleb-wilson-2.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Caleb Wilson<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> received 114 catches in 24 games at UCLA, but only picked up five scores. Still, Oliver is larger and more skilled of a receiver than many other tight ends. He did enough to merit an invitation to the Senior Bowl where he gained a slew of fans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally recruited as an edge linebacker, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/prospects\/josh-oliver?id=32194f4c-4952-4360-2a59-44a3fa93d63f\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oliver\u2019s size and versatility could prove useful <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for certain NFL teams, but his lack of experience as a pure tight end may be a deal breaker for others. Oliver can make a significant impact in the red zone and deep passing situations, but that\u2019s if he makes an NFL squad and can handle NFL-level defenders. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Jose State hasn\u2019t produced a tight end since 2004\u2019s <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AndeCo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Courtney Anderson<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the school hasn\u2019t produced an offensive player in the first two rounds since 1984\u2019s <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RichEr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eric Richardson<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Oliver has a chance to change both of those and has the potential to have the best NFL career of an SJSU alum since <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=JoneJa20,JoneJa04,JoneJa00,JoneJa01&amp;search=James+Jones&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">James Jones<\/a><\/strong>. If he had his way, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/abc7news.com\/sports\/meet-the-nfl-draft-prospects-sjsu-tight-end-josh-oliver\/5264514\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he would go to his childhood favorite<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0team, the Oakland Raiders. But he\u2019s ready to join any team that\u2019s willing to take a chance and draft him. He won\u2019t come out of the gate as a clear starter, but with the right development and coaching, he should be an NFL-caliber vertical threat for years to come. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/eagles\/2019\/03\/nfl-combine-2019-results-tight-end-40-yard-dash-times-including-noah-fant-irv-smith-caleb-wilson-more.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The draft is heavy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with more experienced and developed tight ends, though, leaving Oliver as an alternative option for teams. I would be surprised if he went any higher than the 79th spot (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nfl\/draft\/news\/nfl-draft-order-2019-lets-take-a-look-at-them-all-254-picks-in-this-years-draft\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">currently in Atlanta&#8217;s hands<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), but he is a worthy late-round pick and a great addition for any franchise.
