Below is a look at some of the top prospects at each position in this year’s draft. The wide receiver, offensive line, defensive line, and tight end spots are a few of the main position of needs for the New Orleans Saints, so the focus will be more on those positions. The addition of Jared Cook makes the tight end position less of a concern, but the Saints could still possibly select a tight end in the upcoming draft.

New Orleans Saints NFL Draft Top Prospects for 2019

Keep in mind that the draft is still over a month away so these rankings will probably change as the off-season progresses. The wide receiver position is extremely close in rankings. A lot of depth and talent at the position and nobody is vastly ahead of the other. The Saints could easily select one of the wide receivers listed below at pick 62. The tight end position has quite a bit of depth too, however the top three tight ends are a step ahead of the others. The offensive tackle position has some depth to it as well, which could land a really good tackle to the Saints. The position of defensive line is loaded in this draft and has the most depth out of any positions. Since the Saints don’t have many picks this year it is important that they hit with their second-round pick. Jeff Ireland has been doing a fantastic job at drafting good players, so fans should expect him to do the same in this draft.

Quarterback

1.Kyler Murray, Oklahoma
2.Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State
3.Daniel Jones, Duke
4.Drew Lock, Missouri
5.Will Grier, West Virginia

Running Back

1.Josh Jacobs, Alabama
2.Damien Harris, Alabama
3.David Montgomery, Iowa State
4. As of right now they will probably target a wide receiver or offensive tackle. Some good options at wide receiver that could possibly be available at pick 62 would be Riley Ridley, Hakeem Butler, Andy Isabella, Parris Campbell or Deebo Samuel. They would all be a nice wingman to Michael Thomas. All of them are good route runners and have nice hands. Isabella and Samuel are more of a quick twitch guys, while Ridley and Butler are longer receivers with big catch radius. Any of them would be a nice addition to the offense.

If the Saints go tight end in the this year’s draft Jace Sternberger would be a possibility. If any of the top three tight ends somehow fall to them the Saints would probably run to the podium, but it’s doubtful any of those three players end up being available at pick 62. That being said Sternberger would be a productive weapon for the Saints. He is an athletic tight end with good hands and speed. Grabbing another Wisconsin tackle wouldn’t be a bad idea either, with both David Edwards and Michael Deiter possibly being available. There is also so much depth on the defensive line this year the Saints could just go best player available and select a defensive lineman.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of free agency and the draft plays out for the Saints this year.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

New Orleans Saints NFL Draft prospects in 2019.
