In news that shouldn\u2019t be too surprising, former NFL tight end Martellus Bennett<\/a><\/strong> will not return from retirement. Speculation arose about a possible return when the New England Patriots<\/a> acquired his brother<\/a>, Michael Bennett<\/a><\/strong>, in an off-season trade. While Bennett publicly toyed with the idea<\/a>, the former tight end took to Instagram<\/a> to announce that he will not be returning to the football field.<\/p>\n

Martellus Bennett to Remain Retired<\/h1>\n

While Bennett said that \u201cit would truly be a dream\u201d to play alongside his brother in New England, his true passion lies with his startup company, The Imagination Agency<\/a>. Bennett started up the Imagination Agency back in 2016. According to the website, The Imagination Agency is \u201ca wondrous group of monsters and imaginary friends tasked with creating, drawing, writing, and imaginating fantastical adventures for kids all over the world.\u201d Bennett has published multiple children’s books under The Imagination Agency, including \u201cHey A.J., It\u2019s Saturday\u201d and \u201cDear Black Boy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bennett spent parts of two seasons with the New England Patriots. Acquired from the Chicago Bears<\/a> in the 2016 off-season, Bennett played a major role in helping New England win their fifth Super Bowl championship. Bennett appeared in all 16 games that year, making 12 starts. During his time on the field, Bennett recorded 55 receptions for 701 yards and seven touchdowns.<\/p>\n

The tight end departed after the season and signed with the Green Bay Packers<\/a>. However, Bennett\u2019s tenure in Green Bay lasted just seven games before an ugly fallout<\/a> caused the team to part ways. The Patriots claimed Bennett off waivers, but the Texas A&M product appeared in just two before landing on the injured reserve.<\/p>\n

Bennett first entered the NFL back as the Dallas Cowboys\u2019 second-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. In addition to the Patriots, Packers, and Cowboys, Bennett has also played for the Chicago Bears and New York Giants<\/a>. Throughout the course of his career, Bennett has compiled 433 receptions for 4,573 yards and 30 touchdowns.<\/p>\n
