Cann to Sign Extension With Jacksonville Jaguars

Selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Cann was brought in to challenge free agent acquisition Zane Beadles and battle for playing time within the interior. The plan was to bring him in and help facilitate the running game and protect quarterback Blake Bortles. The Jaguars’ offensive line became decimated by injuries early on, causing Cann to shed his reserve status and become a starter.

Cann has been a fixture on the right side of the Jaguars’ offensive line the past four seasons. The biggest attribute for Cann is his durability and experience. During his time in Jacksonville, he started 59 of a possible 64 games while playing over 4,000 snaps.

Cann is coming off a disappointing year which saw him surrender 42 quarterback pressures, including eight sacks in 2018. Another year in which the Jaguars’ suffered a slew of injuries along the line, Cann was a victim of inconsistent play. He is one of several interior linemen looking for a fresh start with a new team in 2019.

As a four year starter at University of South Carolina, Cann started the second-most games in school history. He quickly became an impact performer on the offensive line and was a captain entering his junior year. As a senior, his accolades include first-team All-SEC and second-team All-American for the Gamecocks. Cann was the 67th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Jaguars.

Embed from Getty Images

The 67th pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, A.J.
