After careful consideration, a check of his theory rings untrue.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, only two players from that conference earned the distinction of the most iconic player of a franchise.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a list of the faces of the franchise for each AFC team and a couple of defunct teams.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>NFL Most Iconic Player for Each Team in the AFC<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h2>New England Patriots<\/h2>\n<p>This was an easy choice. Could anyone disagree with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BradTo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tom Brady<\/strong><\/a> (Michigan)? Prior to Brady\u2019s arrival in New England, the choice for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/patriots\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New England Patriots<\/a> would have been tight end <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/F\/FranRu00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Russ Francis<\/strong><\/a> or guard <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HannJo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Hannah<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Miami Dolphins<\/h2>\n<p>With all the numbers he put up, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MariDa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Dan Marino<\/strong><\/a> (Pitt) gets the nod. The entire 1972 undefeated <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/dolphins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miami Dolphins<\/a> team should be recognized, but Marino\u2019s stats are undeniable.<\/p>\n<h2>Buffalo Bills<\/h2>\n<p>Please keep in mind this list is for on-the-field achievements, so the choice is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SimpO.00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>O.J. Simpson<\/strong><\/a> (USC). In his time, Simpson was simply the best in the game. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BennCo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Cornelius Bennett<\/strong><\/a> was a close second.<\/p>\n<h2>New York Jets<\/h2>\n<p>The only quarterback to take the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Jets<\/a> to the Super Bowl is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/N\/NamaJo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Joe Namath<\/strong><\/a> (Alabama) and he is the pick. No other player really stands out in the franchise except for maybe <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GastMa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Gastineau<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Baltimore Ravens<\/h2>\n<p>This is another easy choice, linebacker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LewiRa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ray Lewis<\/strong><\/a> (Miami). No one in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/ravens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baltimore Ravens<\/a> short history played with his raw emotion.<\/p>\n<h2>Baltimore Colts<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/U\/UnitJo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Johnny Unitas<\/strong><\/a> (Louisville) must be the selection for the original Colts. Of course, this comes with apologies to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SmitBu00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bubba Smith<\/a><\/strong>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CurtMi00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Mike Curtis<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MoorLe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Lenny Moore<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MackJo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>John Mackey<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Pittsburgh Steelers<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/steelers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> of the 70s had a lot of offensive firepower. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BradTe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Terry Bradshaw<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SwanLy00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Lynn Swann<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/StalJo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>John Stallworth<\/strong><\/a> led the passing attack with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HarrFr00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Franco Harris<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BleiRo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Rocky Bleier<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at running back. But the heartbeat of that team was on the other side of the ball. The most iconic Steeler is linebacker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LambJa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jack Lambert<\/strong><\/a> (Kent State).<\/p>\n<h2>Cleveland Browns<\/h2>\n<p>The greatest short career of all time is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BrowJi00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jim Brown<\/strong><\/a> (Syracuse). He was possibly the hardest runner in the history of the NFL. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GrahOt00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Otto Graham<\/strong><\/a> is a close second, however.<\/p>\n<h2>Cincinnati Bengals<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AndeKe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ken Anderson<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/E\/EsiaBo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Boomer Esiason<\/strong><\/a> filled the air with footballs and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MunoAn00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Anthony Munoz<\/strong><\/a> is the greatest offensive lineman in <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/bengals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cincinnati Bengals<\/a> history. But the pick here is linebacker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WillRe20.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Reggie Williams<\/strong><\/a> (Dartmouth). Not only did he play great for the Bengals, but he later served as the director of sports development for Disney.<\/p>\n<h2>Houston Texans<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/texans\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Houston Texans<\/a> haven\u2019t been around that long, but during his tenure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WattJ.00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>J.J. Watt<\/strong><\/a> (Wisconsin) has become the iconic player of the franchise. The only other choice could have been wide receiver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JohnAn02.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Andre Johnson<\/strong><\/a>, but Watt has had more success.<\/p>\n<h2>Houston Oilers<\/h2>\n<p>During the \u201cLuv Ya Blue\u201d days in Houston, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CampEa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Earl Campbell<\/strong><\/a> (Texas) was the Oilers. The franchise had other stars like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BurrKe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ken Burrough<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BethEl00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Elvin Bethea<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BrazRo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Robert Brazile<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JohnBi01.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Billy \u201cWhite Shoes\u201d Johnson<\/strong><\/a>, but no one came close to Campbell\u2019s talent.<\/p>\n<h2>Indianapolis Colts<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MannPe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Peyton Manning<\/strong><\/a> (Tennessee) basically carried the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/colts\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Indianapolis Colts<\/a> during his career, and he is the easy pick. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HarrMa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Marvin Harrison<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JameEd00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Edgerrin James<\/strong><\/a> would have been the only other contenders.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennessee Titans<\/h2>\n<p>The only choice here is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McNaSt00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Steve McNair<\/strong><\/a> (Alcorn State). He took the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/titans\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tennessee Titans<\/a>, an expansion franchise, and led them to within one yard of a Super Bowl win.<\/p>\n<h2>Jacksonville Jaguars<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BrunMa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Mark Brunell<\/strong><\/a> was a great leader during his time with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/jaguars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a>, but the iconic choice is offensive tackle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BoseTo00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tony Boselli<\/strong><\/a> (USC). He anchored the Jaguars offensive line for years and kept Brunell and others upright.<\/p>\n<h2>Kansas City Chiefs<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/chiefs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> won Super Bowl IV behind<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DawsLe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Len Dawson<\/a><\/strong>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TaylOt00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Otis Taylor<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GarrMi00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Mike Garrett<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BuchBu00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Buck Buchanan<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LaniWi00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Willie Lanier<\/strong><\/a>. He gets the honor.<\/p>\n<h2>Los Angeles\/San Diego Chargers<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/F\/FoutDa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Dan Fouts<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RivePh00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Philip Rivers<\/strong><\/a> were and are great quarterbacks,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WinsKe01.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Kellen Winslow<\/strong><\/a> was almost unstoppable, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AlwoLa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Lance Alworth<\/strong><\/a> was a highlight reel at wide receiver. But the leader of the Chargers both on and off the field was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SeauJu00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Junior Seau<\/strong><\/a> (USC). The Raiders have had <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/StabKe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ken Stabler<\/a><\/strong>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BileFr00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Fred Biletnikoff<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CaspDa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Dave Casper<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AlleMa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Marcus Allen<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BranCl00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Cliff Branch<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/ShelAr00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Art Shell<\/strong><\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TatuJa00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Jack Tatum<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GuyxRa20.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ray Guy<\/strong><\/a>. But the one player who held the team together was offensive lineman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/U\/UpshGe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Gene Upshaw<\/strong><\/a> (Texas A&amp;M).
