Amos has been one of the most consistent safeties over the past two seasons. Initially selected in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Amos been a starter out of the gate for the Chicago Bears and has proven to be one of the most reliable safeties in the game. He is going to be highly coveted by many teams who need secondary help when free agency kicks off.

2019 NFL Free Agent Profile: Adrian Amos

Adrian Amos had another quietly good year for the Bears. He started all 16 games and set a career high in tackles with 73, and also amassed two interceptions. Amos, along with Eddie Jackson, Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara made up one of the top secondaries in football during the 2018 season. His biggest moment of the season came in the playoffs against the Philadelphia Eagles. He thwarted a possible Eagles scoring chance by picking off Nick Foles in the end zone.

Amos is ok against the run, but his strength is pass coverage. In his first two seasons, he struggled against the pass. His passer rating allowed for those two years was about 115. He was able to drastically improve those numbers in his next two seasons, lowering it to about 80. He doesn’t put up crazy interception numbers, but he’s one of the better coverage guys out there.

Possible Fits for Amos

Ideally, the Chicago Bears would love to bring him back. They’ve had preliminary talks with Amos and there is a mutual interest for Amos to return. However, cap space is a major issue for the Bears. They don’t have much money to work with, and also have to worry about Bryce Callahan, another valuable starter from last year’s team.

One interesting fit for Amos is the Denver Broncos. Denver is in need of help in the secondary, with safety Darian Stewart and cornerback Bradley Roby set to hit free agency. In addition, Denver recently hired former Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to be the next head coach. Fangio also was able to lure away Bears secondary coach Ed Donatell and made him the defensive coordinator. These two helped develop and grow Amos into what he is today. They could easily convince Amos to join the Broncos in free agency.

Another team to look out for here for Amos is the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle looked to be heading for a rebuilding year last season, but that wasn’t the case. They got back to old Seahawk football that saw them have success in the early 2010s. Good defense, a power running game, and Russell Wilson doing Russell Wilson things. They also did this without their star safety, Earl Thomas. Thomas is set to be a free agent, and he’s unlikely to come back. Amos could slide into that secondary, and help a team that will be looking to make another playoff push next season.

Last Word on Adrian Amos

Adrian Amos will be a player targeted by many teams in need of secondary help this offseason. He won’t demand high-end money like Landon Collins, but he still gives teams a reliable safety who will help improve teams pass defense. It will be interesting to see where Amos goes, and how much money teams will offer up to him.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Adrian Amos is set to become a free agent when the league year begins.
