His first two years with the Carolina Panthers were nothing special, as he totaled just 31 receptions and 23 receptions respectively. He failed to reach 500 yards in both seasons as well but managed to find the end zone nine times in his first two years.

Funchess’s breakout year came in his third season with the Panthers. He finished with 63 catches for 840 yards and eight touchdowns. He had finally looked like the number one option that Carolina was desperately missing since they had Steve Smith. Many were looking at this year as the year for Funchess to take that next big leap.

Unfortunately for Funchess and the Panthers, that didn’t happen this year. He battled nagging injuries the entire year and was unable to replicate his 2017 season. Cam Newton’s injured shoulder also played a part in it, as he struggled to throw the ball during the second half of the season. Funchess finished the season with 44 catches for 549 yards and four touchdowns.

He will look to bounce back after a rough 2018, but he should be able to with ease. Funchess doesn’t have the speed some of the top receivers do, but he’s still a very capable wide receiver. He has good size and strength for the position, which makes him a very capable red zone threat.

Funchess went to Harrison High School in Farmington, Michigan, where he excelled at football and track and field. Funchess was rated as a four-star recruit by most websites. He committed to his hometown Michigan Wolverines in 2011. Funchess was drafted 41st overall by the Carolina Panthers. He played tight end in high school and college but converted to wide receiver once he got in the league.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

Devin Funchess will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing season in which he finished with 549 yards and four touchdowns.

[36,12
367,329,3248,385
post-59374","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-news","category-colts","tag-cam-newton","tag-carolina-panthers","tag-devin-funchess","tag-steve-smith
["GET
