There are only a few off-season issues the Browns need to address at this point. With at least one draft pick in all seven rounds, and the third most available cap space in the league, the Browns should be able to build on their recent success.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>2019 Cleveland Browns Off-Season: What Issues Must the Team Address?<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>With a new head coach, a franchise quarterback and some wins under their belts, let\u2019s take a look at the few remaining areas that need improvement.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/baker-mayfield-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baker Mayfield<\/a> Needs More Protection<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s a miracle, but somehow the Browns had one of the best offensive lines in the NFL last season. In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballfocus.com\/news\/pro-2018-nfl-offensive-line-rankings-all-32-teams-units-after-week-17\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pro Football Focus<\/a> named the unit second-best following Week 17. The interior linemen protected<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MayfBa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Baker Mayfield<\/a><\/strong> and created a mass of running lanes for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/ChubNi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Chubb<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JohnDu00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duke Johnson<\/a><\/strong>. For much of the season, opposing pass rushers were stopped in their tracks and the pocket was kept clean for Mayfield. PFF said Cleveland\u2019s center, right guard and right tackle \u201cgelled into one of the league\u2019s top units in the second half of the year.&#8221; Left guard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BitoJo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Joel Bitonio<\/strong><\/a>, center <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TretJC00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">J.C. Tretter<\/a><\/strong> and right guard <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/Z\/ZeitKe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Zeitler<\/a> <\/strong>combined to give up only 39 total pressures.<\/p>\n<p>The tackles were much less stable, with the Browns cycling through <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HarrDe05.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Desmond Harrison<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/greg-robinson-3.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greg Robinson<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HubbCh00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Hubbard<\/a><\/strong>. <strong>William Schneiderhan<\/strong> of <a href=\"https:\/\/fansided.com\/2019\/02\/17\/cleveland-browns-needs-2019-offseason-free-agency-draft-trade\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fansided<\/a> believes the Browns are better off finding a true starter for the position by signing a young free agent like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BrowTr02.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trent Brown<\/a><\/strong> or <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WillDa06.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daryl Williams<\/a><\/strong>. That way, the line will be better built for Mayfield in what is a very physical division.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/jarvis-landry-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jarvis Landry<\/a> Needs a Better Receiver to Pair With<\/h2>\n<p>Statistically, this wasn\u2019t<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LandJa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jarvis Landry<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s best season. However, 81 catches, 976 yards, and four touchdowns aren\u2019t something to be taken lightly \u2013 he still made it to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl. Rookie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CallAn00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Antonio Callaway<\/a><\/strong>, while showing some real skill at times, was largely inconsistent and not a reliable number-two receiver. In fact, tight end <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/N\/NjokDa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Njoku<\/a><\/strong> was the second-leading receiver last season, and it shouldn\u2019t have to be that way.<\/p>\n<p>With offensive coordinator <strong>Todd Monken<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/freddie-kitchens-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Freddie Kitchens<\/a><\/strong> as head coach, Landry could really thrive and reach his full potential once again.<\/p>\n<p>The Browns will likely use one of their picks on a receiver in April. Perhaps <strong>N\u2019Keal Harry<\/strong> or <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/hakeem-butler-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hakeem Butler<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Mayfield already has a solid backfield in Chubb, Johnson, and now <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HuntKa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kareem Hunt<\/a><\/strong>. But the Browns need a true number-two to go with Landry, Callaway, and Njoku \u2013 then they will finally have the right amount of offensive weapons.<\/p>\n<h2>A Stronger Secondary<\/h2>\n<p>Picking <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WardDe02.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Denzel Ward<\/a> <\/strong>fourth overall was one of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DorsJo20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Dorsey<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s surprise moves \u2013 and one that paid off. In the Browns first regular season game, Ward silenced his critics with two interceptions.<\/p>\n<p>He was named to the Pro Bowl with three interceptions, 11 passes defended and one forced fumble in 13 games.<\/p>\n<p>Ward has demonstrated his abilities as a cornerback, but the Browns need a number-two to play opposite him. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CarrTr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">T.J. Carrie<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MitcTe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terrance Mitchell<\/a> <\/strong>took reps throughout the season but\u00a0may not be retained. Adding to the uncertainty is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GainE.00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">E.J. Gaines<\/a><\/strong> and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GainPh00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phillip Gaines<\/a><\/strong> who will be free agents. According to Schneiderhan, this is a unique situation in which Dorsey may not have to dig deep into the bank in free agency, yet he has the freedom of drafting someone. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JackKa99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kareem Jackson<\/a><\/strong> or <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DarbRo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ronald Darby<\/a><\/strong> may be names thrown into the mix.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, the Browns broke their embarrassing losing streak and had an enviable lineup of talent on the roster.
