Deebo Samuel 2019 NFL Draft Profile<\/strong><\/h1>\n

During his high school career, Deebo Samuel<\/a><\/strong> played on both sides of the ball as a wide receiver and defensive back. But his pass-catching prowess clearly stood out as he finished as Chapman High School’s all-time leader in receiving touchdowns with 53. It led to the Inman, SC native receiving four Power Five scholarship offers. In the end, he decided to stay in state when he committed to then-Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After sitting out a year, Samuel saw limited action as a redshirt freshman as he battled nagging injuries. The following season, Will Muschamp<\/a><\/strong>‘s first as head coach of the program, he emerged as one of quarterback Jake Bentley<\/a><\/strong>‘s top targets. Though he managed just one touchdown pass, he led the team with 783 receiving yards en route to team offensive MVP recognition. A year later, Samuel tallied three touchdowns over the first three games of the season before his season came to an abrupt end due to a broken leg.<\/p>\n

But in 2018, Samuel showed what he was capable of when fully healthy. For the second time in his college career, he led the Cocks in receiving with a career-high 882 yards. He also hauled in 11 touchdown catches which were tied for second-best among SEC receivers. After the season, Samuel came to Mobile for the Senior Bowl and further enhanced his draft stock with an impressive effort during the practices.<\/p>\n
