As such, it\u2019s an appropriate time to analyze which players have put together a<\/span><b> Pro Bowl<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-worthy campaign. For this series, the three most deserving on each team will be considered. Obviously, some teams will have more than three players selected. But for simplicity\u2019s sake, only the top three candidates will be discussed.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With that in mind, here are the three frontrunners to make the 2016 Pro Bowl from the <\/span><b>New Orleans Saints<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Top Midseason New Orleans Saints Pro Bowl Candidates<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Drew Brees<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite the amount of steadiness and turbulence throughout his tenure in New Orleans, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BreeDr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Drew Brees <\/a>has remained the reliable constant for the Saints. In the midst of his 11th season as the team\u2019s signal-caller at age 37, Brees continues to avoid \u201cfather time\u201d and post big numbers for an offensive unit that is once again among the league\u2019s elite. Currently top five in completions (first), yards per game (first), yards (second) and touchdowns (second), he\u2019s remains one of the league\u2019s premier guys under center. The Purdue alum consistently delivers in spite of a traditionally-anemic defensive bunch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From 2006-2015, the Saints defense ranked in the top 20 only three times (2006, 2010, 2013), including three years placing 30th or worse. This storyline remains the same in 2016 as the unit is bottom three in total yards allowed. Even in the team\u2019s four victories thus far, an average of 29 points were surrendered. Although the defense has <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gradually <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">improved in recent weeks, the team would be completely out of contention without Brees\u2019 productivity. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Michael Thomas<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One player who\u2019s been a pleasant surprise for the \u201cWho Dat\u201d faithful is rookie wideout <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=ThomMi02,ThomMi05&amp;search=Michael+Thomas&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Michael Thomas<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Writing up our website\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2016\/05\/04\/new-orleans-saints-2016-nfl-draft-review\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">post-draft analysis for the Saints<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in May, experts had his early selection as one of the team\u2019s surprise moves during the weekend. At that time, experts deemed the wide receiver position as a distant need for the team and not an area to address right away, despite Thomas\u2019s statistical output at <\/span><b>Ohio State<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The talent and overall ability were evident, but his rapid contributions have been unexpected. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through nine weeks, Thomas leads all rookies in receptions (47) and yards (573) while holding second place in touchdowns (five). Granted, he does benefit from Drew Brees throwing him the ball and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CookBr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandin Cooks<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SneaWi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Willie Snead<\/a> alleviating his workload, but the first-year pass-catcher has been nothing short of dependable. Based on his fast start, he could legitimately become the first Pro Bowl receiver that Drew Brees has ever played with. Being Compared to Saints\u2019 all-time leading receiver <\/span><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/ColsMa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marques Colston<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from a size and skillset standpoint, who knows what the future holds for the 23-year-old.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Max Unger<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Defenders <\/span><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RobeCr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Craig Robertson<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/F\/FairNi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Fairley<\/a>, Nate Stupar <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/V\/VaccKe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kenny Vaccaro<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have provided sparks for the Saints through the first two-plus months, but none of their individual numbers were enough to overtake <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/U\/UngeMa20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Max Unger <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for this final spot. Unger, who was part of the blockbuster 2015 off-season trade that sent him and the Seattle Seahawks first-round pick (later becoming linebacker <\/span><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AnthSt00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephone Anthony<\/a>)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to New Orleans in exchange for All-Pro tight end <\/span><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GrahJi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jimmy Graham<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, has been a critical piece for a Saints offensive line that declined in its performance since 2013. The acquisition was further validated when Graham made his return to the Superdome. While Graham was virtually nonexistent with only 34 yards on three catches, Unger helped pave the way for a 100-yard rushing outing in the home triumph. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently the NFL\u2019s 11th-best center according to <\/span><b>Pro Football Focus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Unger\u2019s 82.5 grade is second only to right tackle <\/span><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/StriZa20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zach Strief<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the team\u2019s front five.
