The offense and defense both came up huge in yet another divisional win for the Patriots this season. Both\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/V\/VanNKy00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Van Noy<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McCoDe99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Devin McCourty<\/a><\/strong> recovered fumbles\u00a0alongside\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BradTo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Brady<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s four touchdown passes\u00a0to pour on a bad day for\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DarnSa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sam Darnold<\/a><\/strong> and the Jets.<\/p>\n<h1>Kyle Van Noy, New England Patriots Defense Stymie the New York Jets in Week 17<\/h1>\n<h2>KVN, Flowers and Gilmore Big Winners on Defense<\/h2>\n<p>The Jets may have been without several key players on offense this week, but the Patriots defensive efforts have to be lauded.\u00a0Darnold came into this game as <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnfl.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/12\/27\/new-england-patriots-gameplan-stopping-improved-sam-darnold-week-17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one of the hotter quarterbacks<\/a> in the NFL, and the Patriots held their own. Darnold completed 16 of 28 passes for 167 yards and no touchdowns.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/F\/FlowTr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trey Flowers<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/ButlAd00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Butler<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GuyxLa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lawrence Guy<\/a><\/strong> and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RiveDe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Derek Rivers<\/a><\/strong> all found their way into the Jets backfield to record sacks on the rookie quarterback. Flowers was a disruption machine along the defensive front, hardly allowing Darnold the time to let plays develop all game.<\/p>\n<p>Flowers, Butler and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JoneJo03.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonathan Jones<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0all forced fumbles during the contest, and Van Noy scored his second touchdown of the season off the fumble Butler forced from Darnold.<\/p>\n<p>As expected, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AndeRo04.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robby Anderson<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>saw a lot of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GilmSt00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephon Gilmore<\/a><\/strong> in today&#8217;s contest, and it was no competition for the Patriots Pro Bowler. Anderson had averaged 104 receiving yards over his last three games but came away from this one with only 24. Across the field, the undrafted free agent\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JackJ.00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">J.C. Jackson<\/a><\/strong> led the team in tackles, including one tackle for loss, and one pass breakup. The Jackson and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McCoJa99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jason McCourty<\/a><\/strong> rotation continues to pay off for the Patriots secondary.<\/p>\n<p>Devin McCourty put up two tackles, a pass broken up and a recovered fumble that set the Pats up for a quick score before heading to the locker room to be evaluated for a head injury in the third quarter.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Devin McCourty is being evaluated for a concussion in the locker room.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeffphowe\/status\/1079465904835043328?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">December 30, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thankfully, McCourty will have plenty of time to recover before the Patriots appearance in the AFC Divisional Round in the second weekend of\u00a0January.<\/p>\n<h2>Offense Spreads the Love<\/h2>\n<p>The Patriots proved once again that they can move the ball at will both on the ground and through the air.\u00a0<strong>Josh McDaniels<\/strong> dialed up a very balanced offensive attack against the Jets to close out the season, and the Patriots executed, gathering 375 total yards on 33 passing attempts and 30 rushing attempts.<\/p>\n<p>Four different pass-catchers caught touchdowns in the blowout in Foxborough, including\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DorsPh00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phillip Dorsett<\/a><\/strong>, who has been largely absent from the offense since week four. Both\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/E\/EdelJu00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Julian Edelman<\/a><\/strong> and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HogaCh00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Hogan<\/a><\/strong> contributed heavily to the win with more than 60 receiving yards apiece. Hogan was <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnfl.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/12\/27\/keep-an-eye-on-chris-hogan-in-week-17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">expected to be the top receiver<\/a> against a decimated Jets secondary this week, and the third-year Patriot handily led the team in targets with 11.<\/p>\n<p>Dorsett and Edelman both saw a couple of effective rushing attempts this week in the absence of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/P\/PattCo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cordarrelle Patterson<\/a><\/strong> thanks to some rare seal blocks from\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BrowTr02.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trent Brown<\/a><\/strong>. Unfortunately, it was still more down than up for Brown once again.
