Teams are fighting for playoff spots, then there are those who are looking to next year.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Nostrathomas Predicts NFL Week 16<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>The work now is identifying which teams will be going through the motions. NFL players aren&#8217;t going to lay down but if there&#8217;s nothing to look forward to but the end of Week 17, they&#8217;ve been known to mentally pack it in.<\/p>\n<p>For <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2018\/12\/15\/nostrathomas-predicts-nfl-week-15-including-green-bay-packers-vs-chicago-bears\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NFL Week 15<\/a>, Nostrathomas was 2-2 on his top picks, 9-4 against the spread and 8-5 straight up. The record for the year is now, 23-25-2 on top picks, 95-94-2 against the spread and 122-61-2 straight up.<\/p>\n<h2>NFL Week 16 Best Bets<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Chicago Bears -4<\/strong> vs San Francisco 49ers (4:05 ET PM; Levi\u2019s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA)<\/h3>\n<p>Last week, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/bears\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Bears<\/a> wrapped up their first NFC North title since 2010 but they still have more to play for in the final two weeks of the season. Chicago still has a chance to slip past the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/rams\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Rams<\/a> for a first-round bye in the postseason.<\/p>\n<p>The road isn\u2019t going to be easy for Chicago though. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/49ers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Francisco 49ers<\/a> are coming off two straight wins at home. The first of those knocked the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/broncos\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Denver Broncos<\/a> out of serious playoff contention. The second surprised the postseason entrenched <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/seahawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seattle Seahawks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nostrathomas has picked against San Francisco for two straight weeks but it\u2019s tough to see them pulling off a third straight upset against the Bears. Out of the 23 statistical rankings that Nostrathomas compiles each week, Chicago is in the league\u2019s top five in 15 of them.<\/p>\n<p>Pro Bowl safety <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=JackEd01,JackEd20&amp;search=Eddie+Jackson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eddie Jackson<\/a><\/strong> may be out for this game but 49ers quarterback <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MullNi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Mullens<\/a><\/strong> still has the rest of the Bears defense to contend with. Don\u2019t look for San Francisco to pull off their third straight home upset.<\/p>\n<p><em>Chicago Bears 27 San Francisco 49ers 17<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Jacksonville Jaguars vs <strong>Miami Dolphins -3.5<\/strong> (1 PM ET; Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, FL)<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/dolphins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miami Dolphins<\/a> still have an extreme outside shot to sneak into the playoffs this season. For the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/jaguars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a>, stick a fork in them, they\u2019re done.<\/p>\n<p>Jacksonville is the perfect example of a team that\u2019s mailing it in for the remainder of 2018. They couldn\u2019t even beat the <a href=\"http:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/redskins\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Redskins<\/a> at home last week. Even sadder, Washington started <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=JohnJo05,JohnJo07&amp;search=Josh+Johnson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Johnson<\/a><\/strong> at quarterback. That\u2019s the same Josh Johnson who hadn\u2019t taken a snap in an NFL game since 2014.<\/p>\n<p><em>Miami Dolphins 24 Jacksonville Jaguars 13<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>New York Giants vs<strong> Indianapolis Colts -9.5<\/strong> (1 PM ET; Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN)<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/colts\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Indianapolis Colts<\/a> have fought their way back from a hole the size of a crater to the brink of a playoff spot. They can\u2019t take their foot off the gas yet though. As of this writing, the <a href=\"http:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/titans\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tennessee Titans<\/a> have won their Saturday game 25-16. That forces Indianapolis to win to keep pace.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BeckOd00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Odell Beckham<\/a><\/strong> will be out for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/giants\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Giants<\/a> in this game which puts a lot of pressure on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/ShepSt00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sterling Shepard<\/a><\/strong> and running back <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BarkSa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Saquon Barkley<\/a><\/strong> to pick up the slack. The problem for New York is that their defense has to contend with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LuckAn00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrew Luck<\/a><\/strong> at home and they don\u2019t have the weapons to compete.<\/p>\n<p>Indianapolis shut down the visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/cowboys\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dallas Cowboys<\/a> last week and should be able to do the same to the Giants.<\/p>\n<p><em>Indianapolis Colts 30 New York Giants 10<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs <strong>Dallas Cowboys -7<\/strong> (1 PM ET; AT&amp;T Stadium, Dallas, TX)<\/h3>\n<p>The Cowboys were ready to wrap up their NFC East title last week but ran up against a brick wall called the Indianapolis Colts. This week they\u2019ll try to close out the division against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/buccaneers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tampa Bay is 30th in Nostrathomas\u2019 statistical power rankings and it\u2019s likely that Black Monday will claim <strong>Dirk Koetter<\/strong> and his staff when the season is over.<\/p>\n<p>The Buccaneers have only won once in 12 career games at Dallas. The Cowboys are also 5-2 against the spread at home this season. This week Dallas finishes off their late-season NFC North comeback and locks up the division title.<\/p>\n<p><em>Dallas Cowboys 27 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Best of the Rest<\/h2>\n<h4><strong>Kansas City Chiefs -1.5<\/strong> vs Seattle Seahawks (Sunday Night Football; Century Link Field, Seattle, WA)<\/h4>\n<p>Sunday Night Football has had some fantastic games this season and the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/chiefs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> visiting the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/seahawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seattle Seahawks<\/a> shouldn\u2019t disappoint. If the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/chargers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> lose to the <a href=\"http:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/ravens\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baltimore Ravens<\/a>, Kansas City will have a chance to lock down home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. The Seahawks can lock down a spot in the NFC field if they win.<\/p>\n<p>Kansas City has the edge statistically but not by much. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WilsRu00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russell Wilson<\/a><\/strong> may not get the ball downfield as consistently as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MahoPa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrick Mahomes<\/a><\/strong> but he\u2019s just as capable of a playmaker. What killed Seattle last week was a franchise record 148 penalty yards.<\/p>\n<p>Playing in Seattle is tough for any team but one trend that is hard to ignore, since 2014, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/ReidAn20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andy Reid<\/a><\/strong> and the Chiefs have a 15-5 record in the month of December. Kansas City is also on extra rest this week. The game will be close but Nostrathomas is taking Kansas City to win and cover.<\/p>\n<p><em>Kansas City Chiefs 29 Seattle Seahawks 26<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>Pittsburgh Steelers vs <strong>New Orleans Saints -6.5<\/strong> (4:25 ET PM; Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA)<\/h4>\n<p>As tough as things have been for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/saints\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Orleans Saints<\/a> over their last three games, they still put one of the premium offenses in the league on the field each week. For the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/steelers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a>, they ended a three-game losing streak with a tough 17-10 win over New England at home but the road has not been their friend lately.<\/p>\n<p>The Saints are back home after a three-game road trip and should be able to get their offense back in gear.<\/p>\n<p><em>New Orleans Saints 32 Pittsburgh Steelers 27<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Houston Texans +2.5<\/strong> vs Philadelphia Eagles (1 PM ET; Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA)<\/h4>\n<p>Last week the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/texans\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Houston Texans<\/a> took control of one of the AFC\u2019s first-round bye slots. Now they\u2019ll try to hold onto it by knocking off the surging <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/eagles\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Philadelphia became the second straight team to embarrass the <a href=\"http:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/rams\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Rams<\/a> on Sunday Night Football. They\u2019re also at a point in the season&#8217;s script where backup quarterback <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/F\/FoleNi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Foles<\/a><\/strong> takes over the reins from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WentCa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carson Wentz<\/a><\/strong> and guides the Eagles to another Super Bowl win.<\/p>\n<p>It would be easy to take the home team in this game but Houston has a few advantages that shouldn\u2019t be overlooked. First, the Eagles are only 2-5 this year against teams that are heading into Week 16 with a record over .500. Second, the Texans are 4-1 in games in the Eastern Time zone this season. Their only loss was a 27-20 Week One loss to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/patriots\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New England Patriots<\/a>. Third, Philadelphia is only 2-6-1 against the spread in their last nine at home.<\/p>\n<p>Take the road dog to ground the Eagles 2018 playoff dreams.<\/p>\n<p><em>Houston Texans 25 Philadelphia Eagles 22<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>Cincinnati Bengals vs<strong> Cleveland Browns -10<\/strong> (1 PM ET; FirstEnergy Stadium, Cleveland, OH)<\/h4>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/browns\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cleveland Browns<\/a> are a double-digit favorite this week. Take a second and let the reality of that statement sink in. The line for this game opened with Cleveland favored by seven and as of Saturday morning, has been bet up to -10. The Browns haven\u2019t been favored by this many points in a game since 2010.<\/p>\n<p>This game is a tough pick considering that Cleveland can still finish this season over .500 while the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/bengals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cincinnati Bengals<\/a> are playing for pride. The Browns are also looking to sweep a season series against Cincinnati for the first time since 2002. They crushed the Bengals 35-20 in Week 12.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a big spread but Cleveland is finishing strong and the Bengals are beat up.<\/p>\n<p><em>Cleveland Browns 29 Cincinnati Bengals 17<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Minnesota Vikings -6<\/strong> vs Detroit Lions (1 PM ET; Ford Field, Detroit, MI)<\/h4>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/vikings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Vikings<\/a> have the best defensive front in football right now. That defense sacked <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/StafMa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matthew Stafford<\/a><\/strong> 10 times in Week Nine and there\u2019s no reason to think the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/lions\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Lions<\/a> will be more successful in protecting Stafford this week.<\/p>\n<p>This game isn\u2019t in prime time so <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CousKi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kirk Cousins<\/a><\/strong> should have a strong game at quarterback. Take Minnesota to win and cover.<\/p>\n<p><em>Minnesota Vikings 24 Detroit Lions 17<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>Buffalo Bills vs <strong>New England Patriots -13.5<\/strong> (1 PM ET; Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, MA)<\/h4>\n<p>The Patriots are undefeated at home this season and need a win to keep the heat on the Houston Texans in the AFC. New England has covered the spread in their last four against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buffalo Bills<\/a> and is 5-1 in their last six at home. The Patriots are also 19-7 in their last 26 against the spread at home.<\/p>\n<p><em>New England Patriots 29 Buffalo Bills 13<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Los Angeles Rams -14<\/strong> vs Arizona Cardinals (4:05 ET PM; State Farm Stadium, Glendale, AZ)<\/h4>\n<p>In their last three games, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/rams\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Rams<\/a> have won big and covered against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/cardinals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Cardinals<\/a>. Two of those wins have been shutouts. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GoffJa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jared Goff<\/a><\/strong> has hit a rough patch this season but he should get better this week.<\/p>\n<p><em>Los Angeles Rams 32 Arizona Cardinals 13<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Games of the Weak<\/h2>\n<h4><strong>Atlanta Falcons -3<\/strong> vs Carolina Panthers (1 PM ET; Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC)<\/h4>\n<p>This game was supposed to have playoff implications. Instead, we get a battle between two of the most disappointing teams in the league this season.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carolina Panthers<\/a> finally decided to shut down <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=NewtCa00,NewtCa20&amp;search=Cam+Newton&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cam Newton<\/a><\/strong> this week in favor of backup <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HeinTa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taylor Heinicke<\/a><\/strong>, who will be making his first career start. Fortunately for Carolina, they still have <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McCaCh01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christian McCaffrey<\/a><\/strong> as their dual-threat running back.<\/p>\n<p>For the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/falcons\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlanta Falcons<\/a>, they still have one of the top passing attempts in the NFL. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RyanMa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Ryan<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JoneJu02.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Julio Jones<\/a><\/strong> have been as potent a quarterback\/wide receiver combination as they\u2019ve ever been. It\u2019s the rest of the team that\u2019s been falling apart around them.<\/p>\n<p>Carolina is on short rest this week and on a six-game losing streak.
