Since returning from injured reserve two weeks ago, Dixon has taken 16 carries for 96 yards and a touchdown while adding two catches for 27 yards. While Gus Edwards has done a fine job as the lead back (4.8 yards per carry), he isn’t particularly explosive and lacks the ability to run routes or catch the ball. These are things Dixon does well along with having the ability to handle a decent share of carries.

Whether or not Dixon will see a big enough share of the running back work is yet to be seen. Although, Ravens coach John Harbaugh has mentioned that he thinks Dixon’s role will expand in the coming weeks. Whether you are an Edwards owner or someone in need of an RB3 for your fantasy team it seems like now would be a good time to latch onto Dixon before it’s too late.

Fantasy Football: Add Kenneth Dixon Before It’s Too Late

As a Keeper or a Sleeper, Dixon is Worth Adding

Now, unless something happens to Edwards or an announcement is made by the Ravens brass that Dixon will be the lead back, I would hold off on playing him this week. Unless you’re in a tough spot and have lost some of your starting running backs, then, maybe he’s the best available option. If this is your scenario, Dixon isn’t an awful option. He should see close to 10 touches with a chance to break some big runs against a weak Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense that ranks in the bottom four in fantasy points allowed to running backs.

Remember, the Ravens have draft stock in Dixon. They drafted him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. There is no doubt that the team will want their draft pick to succeed. Not to say that the Ravens would place draft stock above success on the field but if they can have the best of both at the same time, why not. Seeing Dixon rip off some big runs while also taking some short passes for long gainers has to be encouraging to see from a player that the team had high hopes for ever since drafting him in 2016. If Dixon can avoid injury and continue to impress with the opportunities afforded to him, there’s a chance he could garner a larger share of the running back workload the rest of the way.

The other scenario that would propel Dixon into fantasy football stardom would be if one of the other two running backs in Baltimore were to go down with an injury. If he were to replace Ty Montgomery for instance, Dixon’s value would rise significantly in point per reception leagues and slightly in standard scoring leagues. However, if Edwards, who has been nursing an ankle injury, were to miss time, Dixon’s value would skyrocket in all formats. Because, I believe it would be Dixon, not Montgomery, who would take over as the lead ball-carrier for the Ravens if Edwards was to go down. So Edwards owners need to “handcuff your stud” and add Dixon.

Looking Ahead for Kenneth Dixon

Whether you grab him as a handcuff for Gus Edwards or as a desperation play this week, Dixon is a worthy pickup in most fantasy leagues. Particularly, if you are either planning ahead for this season or for next. That’s right, Dixon is an intriguing late round keeper prospect in dynasty and keeper leagues. In my opinion, Dixon has the most upside of any of the running backs currently on the Ravens roster. If Dixon can avoid injuries and continue to impress over the last few weeks of the season, he could set himself up as the leading candidate for the top running back spot on the 2019 Ravens team.

2019 is a long ways away and there are lots of things that can happen between now and then but Dixon will be under contract and most likely to still be with the team next year. He is an upside grab and stash player for next week and/or next season. It will be interesting to see how these next few weeks play out for Dixon. His upside is undeniable and the opportunity is right in front of him. If Dixon is able to capitalize on his opportunity over the next few weeks, he would be setting himself up for a shot at the lead-back job for next season. Whether you’re still playing for this year or next, if you have a spot for him on your roster, it would be wise to get out in front of the rest of your league and add him now.

Embed from Getty Images

Kenneth Dixon has added another dimension to the Baltimore Ravens run game and could be a valuable fantasy football option late in the season.

[59
7432,273
post-54775","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-fantasy","tag-baltimore-ravens-roster","tag-kenneth-dixon
["GET
