For this series, we will look at the three most deserving candidates for each team. Obviously, some teams will have more, or less, than three players selected to the Pro Bowl, but for simplicity purposes, we will discuss their top three candidates for the honor. Here are the Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl candidates.

Top Midseason Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl Candidates

Marcus Peters

Despite only being thrown at a handful of times over the previous two games, Marcus Peters leads all NFL players in interceptions at the half way mark with five. Peters is also tied for second in the league with passes defensed with 11, one shy of the league lead.

Teams around the league are absolutely taking notice of Peters’ big play ability and ball hawking skills by staying away from him. During film review, Peters was only thrown at one time against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints – in the fourth quarter with just 1:43 left for a 20 yard completion. Against the Indianapolis Colts, Peters only had a few passes to open the game thrown his way.

Marcus Peters is only a second-year player, but players and coaches around the league are already giving him respect. This should be a lock for a Pro Bowl nomination for the young player.

Spencer Ware

This name might surprise some, but Spencer Ware is certainly having a Pro Bowl year. Ware is currently seventh in the league in total yards from scrimmage and ranked fourth among running backs. He is the highest ranked running back in the AFC, narrowly edging out fellow AFC West member Melvin Gordon. Ware has become a focal point of Andy Reid’s offense in a year where presumptive starter Jamaal Charles has had a hard time recovering from ACL surgery.

Ware is averaging just over 5.01 yards per carry on the ground, which is in the top 10 in the league. What is even more impressive is that Ware was a member of the Chiefs practice squad only a year ago. He fought his way on to the 53-man roster and has earned himself a role within Reid’s offense. Currently, Ware is dealing with a concussion, but that should not discredit the Pro Bowl type of season he has been having this year for the Chiefs.

Mitchell Schwartz

The Chiefs signed Mitchell Schwartz this year to a five year, $33 million contract during the off-season, and he has proven to be worth every penny. As a unit, the offensive line has given up 17 sacks, with Schwartz only accounting for two of those. Schwartz has had one game where he struggled, week two against the Houston Texans, but has played superb the remainder of the season. Schwartz has anchored the right side of the line and, along with Eric Fisher, will provide very good bookend tackles for years to come.

Embed from Getty Images

Top Midseason Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl Candidates: We will look at the three most deserving candidates for each team.
