They might be reasonable, or they may seem to be completely from the hip, but all of them will have reasoning behind them. Either way, each Monday will be spent providing a couple of hot takes based on that particular week’s games. Here are some NFL Week Five overreactions.

Overreactions From Week Five In the NFL

New York Giants Will Have a Top Five Pick

Things do not seem to be going the New York Giants way. They fell to 1-4 over the weekend at the foot of Graham Gano and the Carolina Panthers. Down 11, the Giants took the lead with 1:08 left in the fourth. The Panthers answered with a game winning 63-yard field goal. The smell of dissension is heavy in New York, and it’s going to lead to a difficult season.

Their best player isn’t happy. Odell Beckham Jr. continues to complain, whether it’s outright or with backhanded remarks. Falling to 1-4, is never a good thing, but the Giants would only be 1.5 games out in the division with a Washington Redskins loss on Monday Night. But the 1-4 start seems to be too much for this team. The list of teams to start 1-4 and make the playoffs isn’t a long one, and the Giants aren’t going to make that list. Instead, they will be one of the teams at the end of the year in line for a top pick at next year’s draft.

The Buffalo Bills Will not Have a Top Five Pick

While the Giants very well might wind up with a top five pick in next year’s draft, the Buffalo Bills will not. After the embarrassing showing against the Baltimore Ravens, and then Vontae Davis walking out, things were looking grim. Most people around the league thought the Bills were going to be the worst team in the league, and they would end up with the first overall pick in in the 2019 NFL Draft.

But in two of their last three games they have looked like a real football team. Although the offense didn’t play that well against the Tennessee Titans this week, the defense was very good. They held the Titans to just 221 yards on 53 plays. It was just enough for them to get the 13-12 win, and improve to 2-3. Although they aren’t world beaters by any measure, they are good enough to avoid a top five pick in the draft next year.

Adam Thielen Will Break the NFL Target record

Currently, Adam Thielen leads the NFL with 66 targets. He has had an incredibly consistent start to the season, with 100+ yards in every game. Averaging 13.2 targets a game, Thielen is on track to break the record for targets in a season. Antonio Brown currently holds the record with 205 targets, and Thielen is on track for around 211.

In 2018 the Minnesota Vikings defense hasn’t really looked like the same unit that was on the field last year. As long as they find themselves in higher scoring games, or in games that are close, they are going to throw a lot. Kirk Cousins is third in attempts this year, and Thielen is going to benefit from that. As the chemistry with Cousins grows, look for Thielen to break the target record.

The Watt Brothers Will Break 35 Sacks

Through ten combined games, J.J. Watt and T.J. Watt each have six sacks. They are currently on pace for an incredible 38 sacks. With the amount of points that the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to put up, there have been plenty of opportunities for T.J. to get to the quarterback. It’s a little tougher for J.J., as their team doesn’t score as often as Pittsburgh. Fortunately, the defensive line for the Houston Texans is very talented, so J.J. doesn’t see as many double teams. Both of them should continue to excel, and will combine for over 35 sacks this season.

Last Word

As the year goes on more overreactions will be provided each week. Some of them are going to seem to be outlandish, but everything will still be backed up with stats and reasoning. Only time will tell how many of these overreactions come true, and which are incorrect. For now, these are the NFL Week Five overreactions.

And somehow Adam Thielen amassed another target during this article.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

These are the NFL Week Five Overreactions.
