Their 2-4 record seems like they are on their way to a ho-hum season. When you take a closer look at those four losses, however, they tell a different story.

Putting their loss to the Atlanta Falcons aside, the Saints have lost their other three games by one point (versus the Oakland Raiders), three points (versus the New York Giants) and six points (versus the Kansas City Chiefs). The Saints offense has played well this season, but the defense has struggled. If the New Orleans defense had stepped up just a little bit in each of those games the Saints could be sitting in a much better position six games into their season.

Delvin Breaux’s Journey and Talent Make New Orleans Saints Fans Want Him Back on The Field

Cornerback Delvin Breaux just might be the answer the Saints are looking for on the defensive side of the ball. Breaux, the Saints Defensive MVP of 2015, is working his way back from a broken fibula he suffered in Week one. And Breaux knows how to work hard to come back from injury. The defensive back’s playmaking ability is just what the Saints need to turn their 2016 campaign around. Who Dat Nation rallied behind the cornerback, who they have a real connection with, last year as he led the team in interceptions.

Delvin Breaux Has Strong Ties to New Orleans

While you could write a script like this, it wouldn’t be all that believable. Delvin Breaux was born and raised in New Orleans. He played his high school football at McDonogh High School, also in New Orleans. While at McDonogh High School, Breaux received a scholarship to LSU. However, his high school career ended abruptly on October 27, 2006 when he fractured three vertebrae during a kick return.

Breaux Wasn’t Finished With Football

While many heart-breaking football stories have ended here, there was more in store for Delvin Breaux. LSU honored the scholarship and Breaux assisted as a player-coach. He never got the green light to suit up and play for the Tigers and eventually left LSU.

Breaux eventually began to play professional football. His first stop was the Louisiana Bayou Vipers of the GDFL in 2012 and he earned a spot on the All-Star team. The unbelievable ties to the Big Easy continued when Breaux then went to the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena League in 2013. He moved on to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League where he earned a spot on another All-Star team in 2014.
Breaux’s combination of size, speed and coverage forced the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ hand and they released him so he could sign with the Saints.

New Orleans natives knew the story heading into his NFL debut in 2015. Breaux’s story was told during several of their games last year, especially during national broadcasts, which appeal to the masses. Despite being relatively new to the NFL, Delvin Breaux has used his experiences to become one of the leaders of the Saints team.

The Saints bring their 2-4 record home this week when they host former Saints tight end Jimmy Graham and the 4-1-1 Seattle Seahawks. As the season progresses, so do the stakes. But as Delvin Breaux continues to get closer to his return, hope for the Saints and their fans just might increase as well.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Delvin Breaux’s Journey and talent make New Orleans Saints fans want him back on the field.
