{"id":4773,"date":"2016-10-24T17:50:14","date_gmt":"2016-10-24T21:50:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/?p=4773"},"modified":"2016-10-24T17:50:14","modified_gmt":"2016-10-24T21:50:14","slug":"rams-drop-third-straight-giants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2016\/10\/24\/rams-drop-third-straight-giants\/","title":{"rendered":"Rams Drop Third Straight Against Giants at Historic Twickenham"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>LONDON &#8212;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In what seemed to be a promising start throughout the inaugural four games of the 2016-2017 NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams have hit a familiar stretch full of mediocre play and consecutive losses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the final game of a seemingly never-ending two-game road trip that concluded at London\u2019s Twickenham Stadium, Los Angeles surrendered a\u00a010-point lead against the New York Giants and dropped their third straight, 17-10.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>LA Rams Drop Third Straight Against New York Giants at Historic Twickenham<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of Los Angeles\u2019 production came in the first quarter, where the defense generated a fumble recovery on the second play of the game. It gave the offense great field position and they were able to capitalize\u00a0with a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AustTa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tavon Austin<\/a><\/strong> 10-yard touchdown pass from <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/K\/KeenCa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Case Keenum<\/a><\/strong>. The defense was able to shut out New York for the remainder of the quarter, forcing two punts, while a 36-yard field goal by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/Z\/ZuerGr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greg Zuerlein<\/a><\/strong> gave the Rams a comfortable 10-0 lead heading to the second quarter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was all Giants after that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The offense produced another pedestrian performance, shadowing a strong defensive unit that limited <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MannEl00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eli Manning<\/a><\/strong> to under 200 passing yards, a rushing attack to 36 yards, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BeckOd00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Odell Beckham<\/a><\/strong> to 49 yards receiving. Los Angeles totaled seven punts and four interceptions throughout their last 11 possessions of the game. Case Keenum, who was coming off his best statistical game of his career, threw three of those four interceptions on the Rams final three possessions; the last one coming just 15 yards shy of the endzone on a miscommunicated call and throw to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/Q\/QuicBr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brian Quick<\/a><\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s on me,\u201d Keenum responded to a question delved on his final interception. \u201cWhatever it is, I gotta talk to the guys about signals beforehand and be ready to go, and be more clear on certain things. That was just one play.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keenum has now thrown a total of seven interceptions in the past three games. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s a tough game,\u201d Keenum said following the loss. \u201cFor me, a lot of this, I take full responsibility. You can\u2019t turn the ball over in this league. And a lot of them led directly to points, if not all of them. I got to be better. I got to take care of the ball.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GurlTo01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Todd Gurley<\/a><\/strong> showcased another frustrating night, carrying the ball 15 times for 57 yards and catching 6 passes for 35 yards. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Penalties also played a pivotal role, stalling many offensive drives throughout the game. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=RobiGr01,RobiGr00,RobiGr20&amp;search=Greg+Robinson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greg Robinson<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s struggling play, to no surprise, continued throughout the contest, being tagged for three holding penalties and a false start. <strong>Robert Havenstein<\/strong> was also called for an embarrassing false start penalty on Los Angeles\u2019 final possession, in which he broke a play by backpedaling moments before Keenum signaled out the call.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe pre-snap penalties you need to stay away from, but when it comes to holding penalties, you just have to look at them and try to teach better technique,\u201d<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SaffRo20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rodger Saffold<\/a><\/strong> said regarding Robinson\u2019s penalties. \u201cThat\u2019s an effort play. Those types of penalties, you don\u2019t want a bunch of them, but at the same time, you can\u2019t fault him because he\u2019s just trying to do his job.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los Angeles\u2019 only positive note on offense came through the passing game. Despite his four interceptions, Keenum distributed the ball well throughout the game, throwing for 291 yards and one touchdown. Quick, Austin, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/K\/KendLa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lance Kendricks<\/a><\/strong> all amassed over 50 yards receiving. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BritKe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kenny Britt<\/a><\/strong>, the team\u2019s leading receiver, was contained by former Rams cornerback <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JenkJa03.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Janoris Jenkins<\/a><\/strong> all around the field, accumulating 43 yards on three receptions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe came in here expecting the win,\u201d Britt said following the loss. \u201cWe got here on Monday, guys worked hard all week, we adjusted to the time change, and we had energy at the beginning of the game. It all came down to execution, and that killed us at the end.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los Angeles comes back home with burning questions involving the current quarterback situation. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GoffJa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jared Goff<\/a><\/strong>, who the Rams invested on with the first pick of this year\u2019s NFL Draft, has yet to throw a pass this season. Keenum\u2019s lack of positive decision making in pivotal moments has brought up questions and concerns by the fans and media regarding how much time left until Goff is allowed to hit the gridiron.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the Rams now sitting two games behind first place in the NFC West, head coach <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/F\/FishJe20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Fisher<\/a><\/strong> has gone on record to clarify his utmost confidence in Keenum\u2019s ability to lead this offense, which currently ranks as one of the worst in the league.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cQuarterback is not the reason why we lost three games,\u201d Fisher clarified. \u201cI\u2019m staying with Case. I thought he had a couple tips, not necessarily his fault. Jared\u2019s gonna play when we feel Jared is ready. If we won this game, you wouldn\u2019t be asking about Jared, which I understand. But we didn\u2019t lose this game because of quarterback play. We lost it in some other positions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fisher then went on to rest the blame on the receiving corps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBrian didn\u2019t get the audible,&#8221; Fisher noted. &#8220;Kenny Britt stopped on the post. Didn\u2019t think he was primary. I\u2019ll make changes at receiver before I make changes at quarterback.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fisher, who is just five losses away from becoming the losingest coach in NFL history is solely focused on what\u2019s to come ahead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s a long season,\u201d Fisher said. \u201cWe\u2019ll get it back. We obviously had our hands full with the travel back, and the adjustment back to Pacific Coast time.
