They finished out their respective seasons and began a journey of workouts, interviews, phone calls, and Pro Days. All of this led up to the 2018 NFL Draft where 256 young men got to hear their name called. Dreams have come true and this is the part of the year where they can bask in the glow of achievement. NFL teams are honeymooning their rookies and all is right in NFL land.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is also the time of year where many analysts and die-hard enthusiasts emerge from fantasy hibernation and begin to feast on numbers, projections, and stats. They set their table with the major food groups; rookies, trades, and free agency moves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2018 draft saw six quarterbacks get their names called in the first three rounds. In this article, we\u2019re going to analyze and assess the top four picks and their teams and try to extrapolate an idea of who\u2019s going to be fantasy relevant and when. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re here, let\u2019s assume you&#8217;re coming out of hibernation as well. Ladies and gentlemen, let us feast. <\/span><\/p>\n<h1><strong>Fantasy Football Focus &#8211; 2018 Rookie Quarterbacks <\/strong><\/h1>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Baker Mayfield &#8211; Cleveland Browns <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the first pick of the 2018 NFL draft, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/browns\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cleveland Browns<\/a> took\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/lwosonnfl.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/02\/12\/baker-mayfield-2018-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Baker Mayfield<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> out of Oklahoma.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s no secret that the Browns have whiffed on many of their recent quarterback selections. It\u2019s to the point where when the Browns pick a quarterback in the first round, they\u2019re expected to fail in stunning fashion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mayfield has drawn comparisons to <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/ManzJo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Johnny Manziel<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with some of his off-field issues and headlines. Honestly, that\u2019s where the comparisons should stop. Mayfield exceeds Manziel in almost every statistical category that quarterbacks are measured by. He amassed 131 passing touchdowns and ran for 21 more in his four years in college. During that time he never finished with below 64.1 completion percentage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has already been announced that veteran <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TaylTy00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyrod Taylor<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be the starter. However, if last season was any indication on how coach <\/span><b>Hue Jackson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">handles his quarterbacks, there\u2019s still some hope for Mayfield fans. Spending a season learning the playbook and personnel would be good for Mayfield. There\u2019s a chance he plays this season but for fantasy purposes, it\u2019s a difficult thing to bet on.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fantasy Drafting<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Redraft\/Seasonal leagues:<\/span> Not draftable. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Keeper\/Dynasty:<\/span> Back of middle or early later rounds. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Sam Darnold &#8211; New York Jets<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lwosonnfl.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/04\/07\/sam-darnold-2018-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Sam Darnold<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was selected by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/jets\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Jets<\/a> with the third overall pick.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Darnold threw for 57 touchdowns in his two seasons at USC. He also threw 21 interceptions and fumbled 20 times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jets are among the worst places a quarterback could be drafted right now. Their offensive line is in shambles. Their best receiver is <\/span><b>Robbie Anderson, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who may face a league suspension for some off-the-field issues during the off-season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No one is currently projecting Darnold to start right away. <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McCoJo01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh McCown<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">should be the starter with <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BridTe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Teddy Bridgewater<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">slotted as his immediate back-up. While Darnold could potentially beat him out for the backup spot, it\u2019s unlikely that he begins the season under center.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fantasy Drafting<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Redraft\/Seasonal leagues:<\/span> Not draftable <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Keeper\/Dynasty:<\/span> Late round pick<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Josh Allen &#8211; Buffalo Bills <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> With the seventh overall pick, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/bills\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buffalo Bills<\/a> picked <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/lwosonnfl.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/02\/05\/josh-allen-2018-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Josh Allen <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">out of Wyoming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s begin with the good news. Allen is a monster standing 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 236 pounds. He\u2019s got a big wingspan without being lanky and has massive hands. He threw for 41 touchdowns and ran for 12 more during his collegiate career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The downside is that Allen averaged right at 200 passing yards per contest, and only at 56.1 completion percentage. While Allen certainly looks the part, he\u2019s going to require some serious work to be real-football relevant much less for fantasy purposes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allen is landing on a team that had no problem trotting out\u00a0<\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/P\/PeteNa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nathan Peterman<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over <\/span>Tyrod Taylor <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in what turned out to be an absolute disaster. Unless <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McCaA.00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A.J. McCarron<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">comes out strong, it\u2019s not a matter of if Allen sees playing time so much as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he sees it. Either way, it looks like trouble in Buffalo after having lost three significant pieces of their offensive line. This also bumps <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McCoLe01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LeSean McCoy<\/a><\/b>\u2019s<b> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">value down as he\u2019s almost guaranteed to see stacked boxes early and often.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fantasy Drafting<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Redraft\/Seasonal Leagues:<\/span> Not draftable. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Keeper\/Dynasty<\/span>: Later round pick<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Josh Rosen &#8211; Arizona Cardinals <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the 10th pick of the NFL draft, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/cardinals\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Cardinals<\/a> selected <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/lwosonnfl.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2018\/03\/13\/josh-rosen-2018-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Josh Rosen<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> out of UCLA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rosen averaged over 300 yards per game in his three years at UCLA. He threw for 59 touchdowns and ran for six more while completing an average of 60.6 percent of his passes. Those are the good numbers. He also threw 26 interceptions. Make no mistake, this kid can throw.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He\u2019s got a little bit of an injury history, including a couple of concussions and torn rotator cuff. The injuries were most likely part of the reason he fell to the 10th spot in the draft.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rosen has NFL-level talent and has landed on a team that may allow some success. The immediate problem is he\u2019s backing up an injury-prone <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BradSa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sam Bradford<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so he may be forced on the field earlier than what he may need to fully grasp the playbook and speed of the game at the next level. We all know that <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GlenMi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Glennon<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is there, but does anyone really expect him to get the nod over Rosen once Bradford\u2019s knee swells up the size of a Harley fuel tank?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Didn\u2019t think so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s also a question of receivers. <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/F\/FitzLa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Larry Fitzgerald<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is inhuman and will continue to show success despite his age, no matter which quarterback is throwing to him. After that, there\u2019s not much to look for. <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=JohnDa05,JohnDa08&amp;search=David+Johnson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Johnson<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will hopefully be back and he\u2019s got his dual-threat type of running-back role that will help the offense. It\u2019s also worth noting that the offensive line is not great. While it\u2019s not terrible, it has holes and that\u2019s not a good thing for a rookie with injury history or for Bradford.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rosen certainly has the talent to succeed at the NFL level and for fantasy.
