A day after the New England Patriots took a first-round offensive lineman in the 2018 NFL Draft, the organization has finalized a trade to bring more protection on the offensive line for the 2018 season. The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to send\u00a0Trenton Brown<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>and the 143rd pick\u00a0to New England in exchange for the 95th pick in this year’s draft.<\/p>\n

49ers are trading OT Trent Brown and pick number 143 overall to the New England Patriots in exchange for pick number 95 overall, per @FieldYates<\/a> and me. The deal is pending a physical.<\/p>\n

Trent Brown Traded To New England Patriots<\/h2>\n

Brown was drafted by the Niners in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida. In three seasons in San Francisco, Brown started 28 of 31 games played. The former Gator started every game of the 2016 season, but his 2017 season was cut short after a shoulder injury landed him on Injured Reserve.<\/p>\n

After a joint practice between the Denver Broncos and the 49ers, Broncos defensive star\u00a0Von Miller<\/a> <\/strong>had the following to say about Brown:\u00a0“He’s the best right tackle in the National Football League! And he may even be a top-five tackle, period, in the National Football League. There\u2019s not another tackle who\u2019s that tall, that big and can move the way he moves<\/a>.” High praise from one of the best pass rushers in the league bodes well for the Patriots.<\/p>\n

In the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft on Thursday, the Patriots selected\u00a0Isaiah Wynn<\/strong><\/a>, an\u00a0offensive lineman out of the University of Georgia. It is immediately evident that the loss of\u00a0Nate Solder<\/a><\/strong> to the New York Giants earlier in the off-season is the foremost issue in the minds of the Patriots top brass. With\u00a0Tom Brady<\/a><\/strong> set to play another season at an unprecedented age, pass protection is of key importance in attempting another historical postseason run.<\/p>\n
