The 39-year-old signal caller signed a two-year, $50 million dollar contract to remain a member of the New Orleans Saints.

https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/973556400197718017

Drew Brees Re-Signs With the New Orleans Saints

The veteran has come a long way since being drafted with the first pick of the second round (32nd overall) by the then-San Diego Chargers. In 2005, during a game opposing his Chargers and AFC West-rival Denver Broncos, Brees suffered a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder leaving many to ponder whether he would ever play again. One coach believed he could, and the New Orleans Saints signed the free agent quarterback and the rest, as they say, is history.

The future Hall of Famer’s accomplishments are far too numerous to list, but a few of them stand out. He led the New Orleans Saints to Super Bowl XLIV and was named MVP of that game with a surgical performance that left the world in awe. He’s also won the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year (2010), and Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year (2010).

Throw in 11 Pro Bowl selections, seven times NFL passing yards leader, including five 5, 000 yards seasons, and four times NFL passing touchdowns leader for good measure. And, let’s not forget, he holds the record for the most consecutive game with at least one touchdown pass (54), and these highlights the statistics that will cover his plaque and accompany his bronze statue in Canton, Ohio.

Now, 39, the Austin native with only two scholarships offer out of high school (Purdue, Kentucky); the kid who needed to commit football exile to northern Indiana to keep his football career alive, is still going strong heading into his 18th NFL season. Better than ever, the greatest player in New Orleans Saints history says he is still has a few years left to play before retiring.

But, what separates Drew Brees from most superstar athlete is his work off the gridiron. The legendary quarterback was named Walter Payton Man of the Year (2006) for his work in the New Orleans community following Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina is one of the primary reasons behind Brees’ signing with the Saints. He wanted to help that community believe it could get better when all looked bleak and lost.

Featured Imaged:

Embed from Getty Images

Drew Brees, one of the greatest quarterbacks of this era and a surefire Hall of Famer, has been awarded with a well-deserved new contract.

[28,2,36
371,61,309,40,1608
post-38976","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-saints","category-featured","category-nfl-news","tag-drew-brees","tag-football","tag-new-orleans-saints","tag-nfl","tag-nfl-free-agency
["GET
