It helped lead the team to the second-best record in the NFC and a bye into the divisional round of the playoffs. All in all, the 30-year-old signal caller threw for 4,136 yards and 24 touchdowns to 10 interceptions in the games he started last year.

His most noteworthy moment came in Minnesota’s opening playoff game against the New Orleans Saints. With the Vikings trailing 24-23 and facing third and 10, Keenum heaved a pass towards the sideline. It found wide receiver Stefon Diggs who eluded two Saints players and marched 61 yards into the end zone in one of the great finishes in NFL playoff history.

Keenum’s new contract is a significant upgrade over his previous one. He inked a one-year, $2 million pact with the Vikings in free agency last year. That move was primarily aimed at giving Minnesota depth at the quarterback position behind anticipated starter Sam Bradford given the major knee injury to Teddy Bridgewater. But Bradford himself injured his knee and eventually landed on injured reserve, handing the starting job to Keenum.

Prior to his 2017 campaign, Keenum made a total of 26 starts with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams and Houston Texans. All of his first eight with the Texans in 2013 resulted in losses. In total, his 11 regular season wins as Vikings starter in 2017 equaled the total for his entire career prior to joining the team.

Keenum played collegiately for the Houston Cougars from 2007-11. The NCAA granted him a medical redshirt in 2010 after he tore his ACL. He finished his college career with 19,217 passing yards which remains a school record and the highest total in college football history. Despite that, Keenum went undrafted and spent the entire 2012 season on the Texans practice squad.

Embed from Getty Images

Case Keenum parlayed his best season as a pro into a huge payday.
